Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I want to know what crack is Mrs. Romney on.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I believe that if John McCain had been elected President, every single U.S. citizen would have begun shitting gold.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Mc Cain, maybe, but Romney? meh. I don't think Putin'd have taken him any more seriously than Obama.
I'm baaaaaaackRomney is an empty suit, Putin has enough of those sitting around the Duma.
Oh really when?Could Warren be looking to become Senate leader?

She's a complete nut.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Ah politics.
"Whats that? A public scare? Should we inform the public and take smart steps?" "NAH FUCK THAT THROW MONEY AT THE PROBLEM!"

How long will the facility take to build, though? One imagines it won't be ready in time to deal with this particular outbreak, if you can call three people an outbreak.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It's Texas basically spending stimulus money for a decently good cause (if somewhat overblown). Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
Depends on how much cronyism is involved in its construction. This is Texas, after all. It's nice, of course, but it's kind of small potatoes on a macro scale.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It's better than nothing, and fills an obvious hole in the Texas medical infrastructure.

Keep Rolling OnJust heard that one of the local tea party campaign volunteers was arrested for bribing people to vote against Dem. candidates.
Rather amusing to me since one of their loudest lines has been "Democrats are bribing their way to victory!"
Don't know if there's an official news report yet. The one I did see refused to state her political affiliations, but I know which group she's a part of.
Rick Perry's first court appearance for abuse of power has been moved back to November 7th.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."ISIS claims to have taken weapons U.S. air-dropped into Syria.
Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Oh no, they have second rate M16s and expired body armor. Whatever shall we do?
More seriously isn't this how they got all their shit in the first place? Taking the stuff we sent to rebels that were fighting Assad?
Oh really when?Stacey Dash is a much more pronounced and earnest version of Bill Cosby and Morgan Freeman. At least with Freeman and Cosby, they somewhat inadvertently threw the baby out with the bathwater when they chastised the black community for its uncouthness and stifling employment problems.
Dash is basically a walking security blanket for people who don't want to acknowledge the reality of race relations in America and how they overlap with issues of poverty, incarceration and sub-standard education for black people. What really grinds my gears is that her white conservative constituents are basically using her as a living defense mechanism against accusations of racism, classism and other forms of bigotry. Most of her presence as a correspondent for Fox News is to be a manifestation of the "I have a black friend" argument.

A mix of that, stuff taken from syrian caches and bases, and the stuff they took from Iraqi bases.
I'm baaaaaaackIf ISIS are claiming they've got stuff then they probably haven't. If they could grab stuff from the air drops they wouldn't want people to know as the drops would stop, while if they aren't getting stuff from the drops they'll say they are so as to stop the Kurds getting stuff via drops.

I like how one commenter is claiming that Rand would know more about the issue since he is a doctor. Because an Ophthalmologist would know so much about Ebola.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016
I could see her looking at 2024, if she's up for going for a McCain-esque candidacy age-wise. 2016, the consensus is that it's "Hillary's turn," and Warren has repeatedly disclaimed a desire to go into the Presidential hot seat this time.
If Hillary somehow loses in 2016, then Warren 2020 is likely to try and unlikely to succeed, for the same reason that Howard Dean couldn't muscle out Kerry in 2004 and Santorum couldn't get the nod in 2012: she'd look like an extremist and be pushed out by a "centrist" candidate with "mass appeal" who couldn't even beat a President as unpopular as the Republican who beat Hillary.
