Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

It does if they try to run now.
Technically, he served a full term and more than half of Mc Kinley's second term. That counts as close enough to two terms for the term limit to apply.
I also realized that my congressional district is very strongly red, despite living in a blue county of a solid blue state.

Teddy couldn't run again. His term as the unelected president was more than 2 years.
Burn the land and boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me.Of course if we clone these guys we have a loophole. Nothing saying a past president's twin can't run for office.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
Then we'd get into legal argument over whether a clone counts as a Natural Born Citizen.
Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Republicans nearing supermajority in Georgia Legislature
Damn
Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016More importantly, the clone would just be someone who shares the same genetic coding as the original, so there are no guarantees that he would make as good a president as the original.
What if we could go back in time, pick him up as he leaves office, go to the present, and then have him run?
Burn the land and boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me.Ok we're just loading things at this point.
Term limits.
We fake his identity. He's now Rusty Shackleford from Texas.
Burn the land and boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me.Look on the bright side braeburn, in a couple years when georgia fallks into an utter dystopia they cant blame the liberals.
Yes they can. Fox News and the Republicans are liberal you know.
They don't even need that. They'll just blame the liberals in Congress and accuse the SCOTUS of "legislating from the bench".
That assumes the premise that Georgia's not a dystopia already... And the blame for that falls on the liberals...

You guys are exaggerating. I'm sure if one of us tropers actually live there, he or she will survive.
<Lives in Georgia>
If I could get out, don't you think I would?
I dunno. I live in Jersey and I don't think about getting out much.
I'm baaaaaaackEveryone in Jersey thinks they live in a horrific place that is the worst place in the world to live...
But not a single Jerseyan would take a free plane ticket to Mississippi with a free house waiting for them... That should be evidence enough as to which place is worse.
Hey, I lived in Detroit City.
Never voted while living there though.
Hey now, I live in Mississippi...
Ah, screw it. Make fun of it all you want.
Burn the land and boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me.TBH, I just get in on the jokes for fun . besides not letting me drive in the car with more than one friend, not letting me buy or use(legally, anyway) fireworks, having overly-strict gun laws, having few things to do for miles, having a sub-par high school, the taxes being really high, and living around more than a few assholes...ok, actually it is pretty bad.
I'm baaaaaaackThe fireworks being prohibited is actually enforced by the city governments, and I can understand that for our nearby localities, especially the bigger and more packed cities.
So yeah, topic. Supporting Obama for the election.
Jill Stein isn't even on the ballot here.
