Inhopeless is right, the primary goal of the EEC and now the EU was to reduce economic and political tensions between member states. It was to prevent there ever being another war, and it's done that magnificently.

Prior to it the European Nations had been fighting each other pretty much constantly since the start of recorded history. Now we're all relatively friendly, it's wonderful.

And of course, with the EU, we have a slightly bigger bargaining power as well. Britain outside the EU has little economic impact. However, put it with several other economies, and you get a political and economic power bloc that can have great clout.

Ditching the EU is kinda like ditching the UN. Both multinational bodies that have convened with the express purpose of solving big problems, both with their problems and yet both utterly indispensable in the current role they serve the world.

There is also sad trend of news only reporting failures or "some idiot said somethign stupid, but we forgot to tell he got laughed out so this must be new law" type of stuff.

Seriosuly, what about free travel between countries? Universal currency, that's currently a lot more stronger than anything? Lower prices dues to agreements(roaming cost, for example)? CO 2 reduction?

Where are all the success stories? People expect EU to be able to fix everything now, and when it says "I need year or two, this is big thing" they go all nuts. Then someone says "Hmm, should be try to regulate x?" news papers go nuts and publish it as a new law, where as truth is someone pondered it and rest of them told him that it was stupid.

Like the "No Santa Claus without Mother Christmas on shops" bullshit. In truth, EU was preparing man-woman equality laws.

Success stories don't make good sales. I thought everyone knew that?

Some are some are not. The only positive stories that tend to come out tend to be the "human interest" kind.
