[up]its not just one small minor detail
its Serious Business
the world hangs on a thread whether anime fans can really call anime cartoons
if they do the world will
explode

This level of trolling is reasonable for Commander Obvious. What do you think of this, everyone?

I've been kind of avoiding this thread for its ultimate pointlessness, since it's stuck around so long I thought I'd take a look.

If it's about how I feel about anime being called a cartoon than I'm more or less indifferent. As long as people can convey a message their exact words are irrelevant (with obvious exceptions).

That said most people on this wiki seem to call things which can be categorized as anime "anime" for the obvious reason that here stories are separated into media categories which do a decent job of grouping works sharing similar production methods, tropes and communities together.

How you want to classify works can vary depending on the social context you're classifying them in but it really isn't worth detailing all possible contexts and exceptions.

I'd also like to point out that "cartoon", in some cases, doesn't just mean animated. Newspaper Comics are occasionally called cartoons as well, and their artists "cartoonists".

I don't get why this is such an issue. It's all just playing wordgames.

Honestly, if people can convey the information they want to convey using whatever word they want, then what is the problem?
