Title is unnecessarily narrow: Third Movie Goes To Asia

I think an article of this nature is warrented, but it seems a bit narrow for it to be specifically the third movie. I suggest it is renamed something like "Asian Sequel", or something like that. For example, "Hangover 2", "Cars 2" and "Kane and Lynch: Dog Days" are all the second in their respective series, and all take place in Asia. "You Only Live Twice" was the fifth Bond movie, and takes place almost exclusively in Japan.

And it should probably be split into catagories, ala, "Type I goes to Asia", "Type II has specifically asian characters in major roles", or, perhaps better, remove the ones who only has asian characters.

Sequel Goes To Asia would be better than Asian Sequel since the later sounds like one country made a sequel to another country's film.

[up][up] But are they example? Both the TITLE AND the defintion are about specifically the third film in a trilogy.

[up] If they're not examples, then, in my opinion, the trope is too narrow, and I would suggest creating the supertrope Sequel Goes To Asia, and then merging this one in as The Same But More Specific. All of which can more easily be accomplished by renaming and redefining this one.

I think there might even be a secondary and broader supertrope: Sequel Goes Foreign, which could refer to works from Asia (among other things). But that idea might need work, so I'm not ready to YKTTW it yet.

I'm all for a Sequel Goes Foreign trope. I've seen many movies which premise is basically the same as the first... but in London/New York/Paris/etc.!

Garfield 2 comes to mind.

There is now a page action crowner here. I tried to include a variety of options involving possibly broadening the trope or making a supertrope. Feel free to edit them to make them clearer or add options.

I realize that we could still rename the trope and change its description as well. I think that we should probably determine what we want the trope to be about before renaming it though.

No. That's when a new work used the basic premise of an older one with only a few details changed. This is a tendency of sequel writers to set the sequel in Asia. It would be a subtrope.

I'm not sure, but I think there's important differences between recycling an existing story and making a sequel. Recycled In Space might be a super-super-super-trope or something, but I'm not quite sure yet. But I don't think Forbidden Planet is in any meaningful sense a sequel to Shakespeare's The Tempest; it's The Tempest in SPACE!, while a sequel could be a quite different story, and set in an exotic locale.

So is there a current trope that would (off the top of my head) fit the Rush Hour trilogy as far as sequel locations (the first is in America, the second in Asia, the third in Europe)? Because as written, it certainly doesn't fit this trope in two major ways, but if you wanted to trope the location changes, is that even possible right now?

It seems like the crowner has settled on making Third Movie Goes To Asia a broader trope about sequels going foreign. The alternative titles crowner here is for names for that newly adjusted trope. I am not sure about the protocol on this though so if this is not the right way to go about renaming the trope, feel free to tell me that.

Calling and locking the crowner with Sequel Goes Foreign as the new name at +11 (12 yes, 1 no).

I've starred the thread as "resolved but still has work to do"; start doing the actual move work; the thread won't be locked until it's done.

Move the page contents, move associated pages, ask to have the discussion moved, correct the wicks.

[down] Oops. Yes, you're right. I wasn't looking at the crowner when I typed that. Corrected.

[up]Wait what? Looks to me like Sequal Goes Foreign is the winner of the crowner? I must be missing something.

Before the wicks are fixed and the page is moved, I think the description needs to be edited a bit to be broader so it indicates that the trope is about sequels that go foreign, not just ones that take place in Asian countries. Here is my first attempt at editing the description which I admit is pretty poor, so feel free to give feedback or suggest another way to go about this if I am missing something.

Actually, come to think of it, I wonder if just sending this trope to YKTTW as Sequel Goes Foreign might be a better idea considering that it probably could do with a few more examples that are not about movies taking place in Asia.

I apologize for double-posting, but Sequel Goes Foreign is now launched. Third Movie Goes To Asia and The Good The Bad And The Asian are now redirects for that new trope, their wicks have been fixed, and there is also now a laconic page for Sequel Goes Foreign.

I am not very experienced with launching tropes, so if anyone would like to check my work here it would be greatly appreciated.
