This was discussed in this thread. Nobody could offer a reason for it to remain as Nakama, and there was support for a rename.

It's probably opening a can of worms, but if there is support for a rename, it probably needs to be discussed.

Sorry.

Rename this. Horrible title, plus apparently it's wrong.

Rename. Honestly, the reasons for keeping it just seem like lame justifications to keep a title that is obviously bad but liked by certain members of the community to me. Unlike several of our other foreign language titles there are perfectly serviceable alternates we can use.

Before the inevitable Flame War happens, can anyone give a good reason not to rename it?

[up]And we could move those all over the coarse of a few days. Simple solution.

[down]Yeah, no problem there.

Apart from the sheer amount of work part that it would require, all the inbounds would stay if it was just made a redirect, correct?

Also supporting a rename. Nakama doesn't seem to have any nuances that give it the right to be the main title over any of the many comparable English titles.

I would support the name if it was more than just a single fandom that used the thing however it's not... So support rename.

New titles? Comrades Closer Than Family? Comrades As Close As Family?

[up]x5 That's more about the feeling this is about the group. And trope implies a bit closer than that although we could just throw that out the window.

[up]x4 Fellowship stands out there however that is a rather old term (Lord Of The Rings is the only time I have ever seen the term used that was written in the 20th century.

I think the trope is specifically about the unshakable friendship. Not necessarily the friends... is it?

Definitely about the relationship, not the people.

In that case, I feel 'camaraderie' carries the implications better than 'fellowship'.

I'm definitly in favour of the rename, although some may argue that its one of the "ancient" tropes that is exempt from this sort of thing.

Unshakable Camaraderie sounds good to me.

Not seeing that distinction. Both are about the relationship.

It is naming the grouping relationship, though, not the cause of the grouping. Words like 'gang, posse, band, crew, squad, union' are all nouns for small non-family groups. The idea is like that.

I don't think we should really grandfather it in, if there is a reason to rename it.

@ Eddie:

Fellowship has two definitions it could be referring to-

A company of people that shares the same interest or aim.

and

A feeling of friendship, relatedness or connection between people.

Just at a glance, it could be either one, whereas 'camaraderie' carries the implication that it is specifically about the feelings. But I could be wrong.
