Upgrading Dark Vision to see coins/items is the first thing I do in game. The thought of having to open all those drawers then finding nothing inside terrifies me. And maybe it's me, but I think it receive a range nerf in the sequel?
Same thing here. Then again, I've always played the Low Chaos route, so getting that upgrade makes me feel like I'm playing Thief.
I'm curious, how does it work in Thief? Do you spend the game looking through a sepia Instagram filter too?
Also, when I first played the game, I thought those words you hear when you use your powers meant something, but apparently they're all just gibberish. Would have been cool to have some Bilingual Bonus

I know the words for dark vision are "enhanced eyes" in a weird filter. Dunno about the others.
Why DID the development team choose to associate the Outsider with whales and rats?

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.(2)
Is that what that voice is always saying? I thought it was "a thoussssaaand eyyyyuz!"
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I always heard "Coward's Dice". Made sense to me, since you're basically using it to make sure you don't run into trouble.
Just general steampunk European aesthetics, I guess? The whale oil is supposed to be a Historical In-Joke according to the Dishonored trope page, so maybe they went from there?

I heard 'Coward's Eyes' instead. With the same reasoning, you're kind of 'cheating'. Though, I'd argue that using every advantage is not cheating because there are no rules here, but that's just my 4 AM Brain.
Death of the Outsider is out.
I looks like Emily's playthrough is canon
Specifically, Emily's Good playthrough where she undoes what happened to Billie at Aramis Stilton's mansion.
This was an interesting game. Gameplay-wise it's more of the same Dishonored 2 gave you, but the story is quite different. It's a refreshing change. I quite liked how this one ended.
yeyJust finished. It was a really nice expansion. Billie's powers were great.
Thoughts on the various levels:
- Opening level felt like one big puzzle, but that's not a bad thing.
- Second level was a bit unfocused, but it was nice to just eff around in Karnaca and get the hang of the new powers.
- The Bank Job was hard, but a very fun level that seems to have loads of ways to complete it.
- The Conservatory was my least favorite level in Dishonored 2, but it was nice to see it again.
- The final level was really tough. Fuck the Envisioned
- BTW, there is no achievement for doing a full pacifist run, only for not killing anyone the entire game. So if you find yourself in a narrow cave system surrounded by asshole cultists who all deserve to die, kill away.
Just finished it myself, really enjoyed it. It does feel a lot more "thriftier" than the previous games — you get one area they do two takes on, a place from Dishonored 2 shows upnote , your powerset is more limited, the first level is pretty short and streamlined as a semi-tutorial of sorts — but what was there was still really fun. The stealth felt a bit more tense and Billie's powers felt unique enough to make it feel like a different experience; I really liked Displace, even with its limitations compared to Blink. In the end I finished with 3 kills to my name. All of which were at the bank; I got a kill each time I removed a whale oil from a security system. I don't know if that's bugged of it's intended? It felt odd and I only realised it long after I'd saved past the first kill, and it didn't fail the harm-no-one contract.
The story itself I think again could've been better, but there's Dishonored for ya, I suppose. The general worldbuilding was still ace, and I enjoyed snooping in and piecing together all the notes I could find. Obviously the story's a bit more compressed, but I didn't have too much of a problem with the pacing. Really, I think my main problem was basically rooted in not buying into the premise. It's really Daud, seeing him suddenly be all "we need to kill the Outsider" feels unearned. The game never really explores how he personally came to the conclusion, and Brigmore Witches ended on a kind of closure note for him that ends up feeling just undone. I understand, basically, why he wants the Outsider dead and I can't say it's completely unjustified, but it's a turn in Daud's character arc that feels like it's come out of nowhere.
The ending felt a bit flat for me for similar reasons. I was going non-lethal, as mentioned, but convincing Daud the joys of pity, forgiveness, responsibility, etc. doesn't feel as satisfying when how he got to his current position seems sudden. The more compressed nature of the plot hurts here as well; you don't really see much of Daud in the game before he's taken away again. His interactions with Billie are fun, though, at least when he's talking about how she betrayed him, about his own regrets, etc.

I hoped it would be young Daud appearing in the Void. Like, Billie, I'd kinda want to fight some Delilah-style final boss horror. Maybe Daud himself if we want to forgives him or a Corvo-expy if we want to kill him. That'd be nice.
I have no idea where the "He'll become a man if you give him back his name" come from, so for me the Death of the Outsider was the canon choice.
The gem in Morgan Yu's locker should have been a mimic. :v
Gripes aside, Arkane deliver a wonderful game once again. Dishonored is a fun verse, but I'd like to see them introduce a new series. I think they're done with Dishonored after this one?
"The literal meaning of life is whatever you're doing that prevents you from killing yourself." Albert CamusProbably not, I mean they have done too much setting building(they even have whole "mysterious continent nobody knows really anything about" thing going on) And game ends with "now that there is no dude controlling da void, thats gonna get out of whack" implications
I think it might be a bit before another Dishonored game comes out, and it's obviously something of a close to the games so far (if in Dishonored 3 the crown is lost again I will cry), but I think it's written in such a way to let them make more games later. Depending on how they handle it, they could just handwave why any future character gets empowered as random chance, or make low-level magic a simple fact of the setting for all people. Personally, I'd also be up for a game that has a character that's a little more "mundane"; bring back rope arrows!
If Dishonored is done for now, though, I'd still love to see what else Arkane can make. Absolutely loved Prey.
I mean, Billie herself sets up the idea that there are other sources of power apart from The Outsider. And who knows what might happen with the void without him.
The Outsider does hint that there was a god before him as does the gigantic Eye we find.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleQuestion: what's the most badass thing you can do in Dishonored?
Whatever answer you came up with, you're wrong.
Holy crap! Just... the precision of it all.
Though, has to be with mods because of the mana use, right?
Yeah, those are old. There's another one where someone does the Dunwall tower, and escapes by surfing a body down the front of the tower from the roof.
EDIT: Found it.

...holy crap.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Ah, you've all found those videos.
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.
It is pretty useful, but the first game is pretty generous with how far everyone can see and usually leaning or looking through a keyhole can get you a good overview of the area; so personally I didn't really need it and using it would just a) be a mana-drain, or b) pointlessly slow the game down as I waited for it to recharge. Also Dishonored really is an absolute beaut, so it felt a shame to block out most of it. Though obviously upgrading it to let you see any nearby items/coins is amazingly good if you're trying to 100% a level.
Though, er, okay, maybe a few times I accidentally Blinked right in front a guard.
