Valve said they'd put out Portal 2, and they did. They said they acquired and would out out Duke Nukem Forever. It wasn't the amazing thing that the years of delay made gamers expect, but it was decent and put out there.

I will consume not only your flesh, but your very soul.Valve? DNF? What?
I will consume not only your flesh, but your very soul.Bah. Never paid too close of attention. It came out on Steam, and there were numerous references to "Valve time" (It's done when it's done), so I assumed it was Valve. 2K is not Valve. Point withdrawn.
Fresh-eyed movie blog...But it was only announced four years ago! We waited six years for Half-Life 2!
I've got two guns pointed west and a broken compass. And how many years for Team Fortress 2? For the record, it was originally supposed to be released shortly after TFC. And got released some years after HL 2.
I think, it Episode 3 will come out some years after Half-Life 3 (which will probably be released in 20 years, if we are lucky). Maybe they will advertise it as prequel for it.
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.It bugs me that the huge ongoing effort that went into Team Fortress 2 could have gone into Half-Life 3. The majority of the popular maps came with the original TF2 release, and the core/fun elements of the gameplay.
My guess they just figured they could make TF2 into a lasting profit stream whereas HL3 would be more short-term. Can't fault them for that: they are a commercial game developer like any other. My other theory is that they are suffering from Duke Nukem-itis: they want to "Lift the bar" with HL3's graphics and keep rewriting the rendering engine, or something like that.

Except it will be a hat.
(That's just about the only thing Valve doesn't fail to deliver, so)
