I think the game is pretty good right now. The music is pretty much direct rips, but the note chart quality is pretty good. Even though the music repeats itself most of the time, particularly the tracks from earlier Final Fantasies, they make sure to not have the note chart too repetitive. I haven't really gone into the higher difficulties yet, however, but aiming for higher score is still fun.

The RPG mechanics are kinda fun as well, although mostly ignorable if you don't want to deal with it. It may be more useful at higher difficulties though.

[up][up] The idea was Umaro throwing Moogles.

My idea was that he'd want to throw as many as possible, except for Mog.

Just got the game. Looks like they already have some of the add-on content up:

  • Battle Theme 1 (Final Fantasy II)
  • The Final Battle (Final Fantasy IV)
  • Fighters of the Crystal (Final Fantasy XI)
  • Fighting Fate (Final Fantasy XIII)
  • In Search of Light (Final Fantasy V)
  • Cosmo Canyon (Final Fantasy VII)
  • Ride On (Final Fantasy VIII)
  • A Fleeting Dream (Final Fantasy X)

Well, I suppose I'll go ahead and get Cosmo Canyon and A Fleeting Dream...

Train of thought after beginning this game:

"Wait, I don't need to track my stylus to the four characters during battle mode? That's too easy!"
"Wait, I don't have to track the cursor during a montage? That's way too easy! Why would they do that?"
"The songs are cool, but I wonder why it's only showing Japanese version screenshots? Also, it's too easy!"
"What's a "Dark Note"? Maybe I'll try that.]"
"Holy crap, this is way more challenging!"
""Expert track"? Let's give that a shot."
"Holy crap, Big Bridge nearly annihilated me! I can't keep up with the notes rapidly alternating between characters in one phrase like that!"

So, to summarize, it looks simple to start, but then when you start doing Dark Notes and Challenge Mode, it's way more challenging.

Also, weirdest moment: I was playing Battle on The Big Bridge, took out Gilgamesh, and was greeted by a Bangaa carrying a golden shotgun. WTF? Almost as weird was fighting off things to the tune of FFII's final boss theme, only to run into Anima.

I ran into Ultros during the FFII battle...it seems that other than the bosses they don't bother differentiating the enemies between games.

And yeah, the Dark Notes are way harder. In the Series mode, I found the field stages especially easy, and have been getting A or S rankings every time. And then the first time I tried a Dark Note I didn't even make it through the field stage before getting my first Game Over...

Anybody know how to unlock the Expert Course in Series mode? I SS'd the Basic Course.

Pretty sure you can't, and you have to do Challenge Mode to do Expert Maps.

..."SS"? Dang.

I just unlocked it and figured it out. I needed to play the expert scores of each of the songs in the course to unlock the course for Series mode.

Edit: SS isn't too difficult, just need 90%+ score. I haven't gotten SSS yet; I imagine I need 100%.

Are enemies actually weak to certain elements and such? Because you can equip items that guarantee a specific summon will come out, and I'm not sure what the purpose of that would be otherwise...

Possibly? Maybe certain summons are just stronger?

Oh yeah, the Stoic bonus for not having any abilities or items equipped is a flat +%20 to your score, so it seems you won't be able to exceed 80% score with abilities and items equipped.

Ah, that explains it. Because I got a perfect chain on one stage and still only got an S rank.

...Hey, IX has gotten four DLC songs, and yet hasn't gotten Not Alone. That's just wrong.

Also, what I find really baffling is that in the Card Collection thing, moogles are listed as being from Final Fantasy VII. I mean, you'd think they could go with the game where they first appeared (III) or at least one where they have a notable role, like VI or IX. But the only reasoning I can see behind listing them as from VII is, well, because it's VII.

...Also again, what do the numbers listed on Dark Notes (where it says No. X, Mv. X) mean again? And how do you unlock playable characters from them? I recall it mentioning this stuff when I first opened the Dark Notes menu, but I just kinda skimmed over it and I'm not sure how to find that information again now...

…Yeah, Moogles were first in III, as Doga's assistants.

The Dark Note numbers are, I think, the difficulty of the Dark Note (number one is easier than number five) and then the order of the song itself (Second movement Is the second song in the Dark Note)

Yeah, I guess the number is supposed to be the difficulty...but I wasn't really sure, because I have one that says it's No. 4 and one that says it's No. 5 and I swear the 4 one is ten times harder than the 5 one. Battle to the Death (FFVI) is an absolute nightmare...

Holy gosh. Firion's Lance ability is amazing. The party gains HP every time I get a Great or higher in Firion's lane during a Battle scene.

Oh, and I was wrong about Dark Notes.

The No. refers to the Field Music used. The Mv. refers to the battle music used. I have two Dark Notes with No. 12, both of which start with Blue Fields from FFVIII.

I'm fairly certain that the Dark Notes are randomized from any of the songs in the game. That is dangerous.

I believe there are a few songs that appear only in Dark Notes as well...I'm not sure how or if you can make them available in Challenge Mode.

Also, for the summons, I'm now fairly sure that the summons do differ in power, hence the purpose of the magicite items. And just based on what I've noticed, and out of the ones I've seen, I'm pretty sure they go, from weakest to strongest: Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh, Odin. I suspect that Bahamut is probably the strongest summon and I just haven't seen him because he'd be the most rare.

I just tried out the DLC songs. I downloaded three of them: Cosmo Canyon (FF 7), The Final Battle (FF 4), and Fighting Fate (FF 13). Cosmo Canyon's expert mode is ridiculously fun (haven't tried the Ultimate mode yet), but I found a slight problem with Fighting Fate: at two points during the track the pitch of the song goes higher that the 3DS's speakers can actually handle, leading a small screeching noise. >_< Other than that though, no complaints.

...Hey, IX has gotten four DLC songs, and yet hasn't gotten Not Alone. That's just wrong.

...OK. One more complaint.

Hmmm, now I've gotten two that have different first numbers, but both have Eternal Wind for the field music, along with two that have the same first number, but one uses Eternal Wind and the other uses Vana'diel March. So I guess that's not it either...

Firion's Lance ability is amazing in Battle Music. And Bartz is a beast a Field music. Fitting for a wanderer.

Well. When you reach 10000 Rhythmia, you fight Chaos and then the credits roll...but you don't even seem to get any reward at all, nor do you unlock anything, so afterward it just goes right back to normal...That's rather disappointing.

[up]You unlock the Encore songs, starting with Dancing Mad. After that, every 5000 rhythmia unlocks a new song.

...The game's out? Do the people in charge hate Australia or something? Because I was only able to download the demo. I did that last night, for the record.

Wikipedia's not sounding helpful either. :/
