Again, I'm highly skeptical because it wasn't at E3 2011. Unless they're planning a Gamescom launch announcement, they're giving themselves no time to ramp the system up. Yes, they could announce at TGS, but even that is a tiny launch window. Also, Sony just announced a new handheld for next spring, and I'm reasonably doubtful they want to handle two massive hardware launches in the same year. Notice how Nintendo spaced the 3DS and the Wii U.
There's a law you must wait 18 months before releasing hardware you've developed?
Microsoft's been breaking that law for years, then.
As for Sony, they broke it with the PS 2, the PSP, the PSP Go, etc...
Jonah FalconSo they're going to take E3 2012 to completely bury their brand new hardware in favor of rushing new hardware out the door? Look, it's hardly impossible, but it sounds off. The article source is two sentences, for crying out loud.
Also, I'd like to add that one rumor has nothing to do with another rumor, so claiming this rumor makes the 720 rumor somehow more viable is hogwash.
Yes. Bury it and give it a dignified funeral.
Jonah FalconI was referring to the Vita, actually...
Although yes I would agree that Nintendo's pushing of their next system at this point in the developement cycle is somewhat pressuring on the other console manufacturers but I seriously doubt that sony and Microsoft are jumping away from their systems so soon.
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans. You're making the assumption the systems haven't been in development.
Microsoft has been working on the 720 since at the very latest mid-2009, and as early as mid-2008.
Jonah FalconI'll believe it when I see it.
Until then this is a bullshit rumor.
If its true, I'm done with gaming.
Motion controls are the worst thing to happen to video games in a while.
Well at least I'll be done with console gaming. Hopefully P Cs will stay away from this crap.

Of course there's hardware in development. Actually, I'm doubtful the 360 successor would have been started much later than when the 360 went out the door. R&D and all that. Same for Sony, who had already made waves about the next Playstation at the launch of the PS 3.
So Nintendo is going to aim for a slightly more hardcore audience along with what they still have with the Wii U, and Sony+Microsoft is going to aim for what the Wii reeled in with their upcoming consoles?
Have fun, whatever you decide to do.
Personally, I don't think motion controls are a gimmick. It can be pretty fun, even more so without a controller, if done well.
If this rumor is right, then yes it seems so.

Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!I don't give it much credit. Didn't Sony say one year that they want to make the PS 3 last 10 years before starting another console? Because it's only been half that. And weren't they working on that add-on thing to increase the PS 3's power?
I really doubt it, but if it's true, I'll have a word with Sony...
Sorry, I dont find the idea of waggling like a moron in front of a camera my idea of fun, not to mention that there are very limited game ideas you can do with it. Motion controls like The Move or Wii I can slightly tolerate. No controller things like the Kinect? Yuck.
Nintendo's E3 made it sound like its still aimed for casuals with just a "Hey look we can play last generation games too!" twist on it.

Why would I have a camera in front of me?
Though I slightly agree with your opinion on the Move or Wiimote vs. Kinect.

Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!The...Kinect is a camera.
Does it take pictures?
Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!There are several Kinect games that will snap a photo of you playing a game and show it back to you as if mocking you "THIS IS HOW STUPID YOU LOOK."
And if its not a camera what is it? Magic? How do you think it records your body? You confuse me.
Nintendo's thing seemed more like "Hey, look at thse big-name games that wouldn't give us the time of day before. Just wait until you see games developed solely for this system."

I have a message from another time...I see.
If it was a camera that did not take pictures, only recognized how you moved, I wouldn't have a problem with it. Since you said it is, I do.
However, even if I didn't have a problem with it, I'd still take remote-based motion controls vs. no controls motion.
That's what it seemed like to me too. I'm not awed by HD graphics as certain others are, but I'm happy with what I've seen on the graphics side so far.

Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!
If I were in control of how things were (oh to be a Reality Warper) I would just have the next generation stick with current PC generation graphics, and everything else focus on gameplay and story.
Of course in the real world, that would end up losing the casual market and losing money.
Bah, PC gaming bores me.
Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!G'd evening children. Today, I'm going to teach you about 'reliable sources'. Contrary to popular belief, it is not illegal to lie on the internet. In fact, people do it all the time! For example, did you know that, according to my anonymous sources, Microsoft has ties with the illuminati, and the Playstation Portable 2 was released last year? You did?
Get the fuck out of my class.
Anyway, it's important to take into consideration the quality of a source when making a statement. When presenting a statement as a fact, make sure that your sources are reliable enough to back that statement up. Now, how do you determine whether a source is reliable or not?
Well, how about we use an example? Billy has a feeling the next Playstation console is going to be released soon, and wants to confirm or disprove that hunch. Now, Billy's search turns up a variety of possible sources that could contain information on this topic. Here are a few:
- Is Wikipedia a reliable source? Answer
- The official Playstation website? Answer
- The Associated Press? Answer
- This Digitimes article? Answer
Good sources should:
- Contain sufficient information.
- Have little to gain by reporting falsehoods.
- Present their sources in a reasonably open manner.
- Be knowledgeable on the topic they're talking about.
- Have a history of prior reliability.
And that concludes our lesson today.

UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOI
The rumor that Microsoft’s next console will be released in 2012 got stronger by a report from Sony’s Taiwan-based partners that they have begun production of the PlayStation 4, complete with a Kinect-like gesture motion control included.
According to Digitimes: “Foxconn and Pegatron Technology, assemblers of PS 3, will undertake assembly of PS 4 as well, the sources pointed out. The planned shipment volume of PS 4 in 2012 is at least 20 million units, the sources indicated.”
So much for the Play Station Move, huh?
