So, the former French finance lady is the first woman to pilot the Washington, D.C.-based International Monetary Fund. It was inevitable anyway. She was European <haha>.

Was she right to win? Should Agustin Carstens have won?

Well, at least they can be sure that she's not going to rape a hotel maid.

She'll be too busy raping third world countries to bother with the maid.

Why does the Impossible Mission Force need a Chef? Is it some operation at a gala??

Not sure, both people didn't seem that great to me. Christine isn't even an economist and Agustin ran the Bank of Mexico. Based on credentials, I'd go with Agustin but I don't actually know their skill at all.

^ That seems overly harsh. The IMF was always a European organisation, if the article wants to talk like that, then the US government should give up control of the World Bank as well. But it's not going to. Roosevelt my ass.

EDIT: To be more clear, I don't think the head of IMF is that much of a concern. Christine probably, herself, sucks total ass but at least she listens to the correct economists. She was vehemently against the subprime mortgages which was why France came out of that crisis relatively unscathed. That was probably just by chance though.

What matters more is that the people employed at the IMF are good economists. I'd rather have socialists there than capitalists anyway. Get screwed in a better way.

[up] Exactly. We all get screwed fairly, instead of just the poor and the middle-income getting overly screwed.

Choosing a European does cast suspicion over impartiality with regards to the Greece situation.

[up]Well, it's more that Europe always gets the IMF while the U.S. get the World Bank.

As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero.

A French court has opened an investigation against Christine Lagarde for alledged corruption as her time as French Finance Minster.

Damn. See, with Gordon Brown at the helm, this shit wouldn't happen.

Honestly.

Strauss-Kahn should take back over if Lagarde falls.

He's never gonna get it... sigh.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks Gordo's such a great economist, given that it was his artificial inflation of demand during his years as Chancellor (among many other things) that resulted in us getting hit so hard by the credit crunch.

Shouldn't we be rooting for people who left their country's economy in a good way?

Who hasn't?

Might as well elect one who didn't screw it up uber bad. Gordo or DSK.

Again, Britain's economic state at the end of New Labour rule could well be described as 'uber bad'. There's a reason the coalition's been characterised largely by panicky austerity measures.

Fair point. But really, who is fit enough? Should we have gone with the Mexican?
