Right now, the "description" part of this is more of an Example as a Thesis-esque narrative which...never really stops narrating. I think we can do better.

More Trope Co-ish junk. Annoying annoying annoying. Fixed.

It does need a different title. Speaking Sword is an improvement, but at least some of the examples aren't swords... "Talking Weapon" might be a little plain but at least includes those other weapons, and we already have other tropes with "Weapon" in the title.

On the question of whether this trope is using for speaking weapons in general, I took a look at some wicks and the following is what I found. Anyone who is more familiar with the works in question can feel free to correct me here.

  • Baldur's Gate: Sword.
  • The Ed, Edd n Eddy Project: blank page.
  • Alliterator: blank page.
  • And This Is For: Sword
  • Atelier Iris 2 The Azoth Of Destiny: sword
  • Characters/Baldurs Gate Other Party Members: sword
  • BFS: Scythe
  • Call To Agriculture: sword
  • Cool Sword: sword
  • Video Game/Cthulhu Saves The World: I am not sure.
  • Darken: I am not sure.
  • Characters/Disgaea Hour Of Darkness: spear.
  • Video Game/Dragon Fable: sword.
  • Dragon Raja: I am not sure, but it seems to be a sword.
  • Dungeon Crawl: sword.
  • Empathic Weapon: sword.
  • WMG/Erf World: Arkendish, a tool that ressembles a satellite TV antenna.
  • Evil Weapon: wand.
  • Excalibur: sword.
  • Fan Fic/Fail To The King: sword.
  • Fantasy Kitchen Sink: Potholed as intelligent weapons.
  • Characters/Forgotten Realms: sword.
  • Gosei Sentai Dairanger: sword.
  • Characters/Gosei Sentai Dairanger: sword.
  • Grail Quest Solo Fantasy: sword.
  • Guilded Age: sword.
  • Roleplay/Halcyon Days: Basically swords.
  • Heel Faith Turn: sword.
  • Heralds Of Valdemar: sword.
  • Hilari Bell: I am not sure, but it seems to be a sword.

The results I counted were 21 uses of the trope for a sword and 5 for non-swords or swords and other weapons, with 4 uses of the trope I could not fully understand from the page alone. I think that around 16.7% of the use coming from examples that are not just about talking swords may indicate that the trope should be expanded a bit to include them. At the very least, I would recommend making a supertrope since there is no other trope to use now for weapons that speak aside from The Sword That Speaks (as far as I know).

Two tropes is too much for something this simple. I went ahead and moved it over to Talking Weapon. I'll fix the wicks later.

I put a link to the page history for The Sword That Speaks on the discussion page of Talking Weapon.
