Don’t know if this one has been posted here, but hot damn you all need to read it.
Situation for a fanfic I'm rebooting: Equestria has quite literally been erased from existence because reasons, and Equestrians in Country X have formed a Government in Exile and its own Eagle Squadron to contribute in X's war. Foggy Morn is part of aforementioned Eagle Squadron, yet I need an excuse to actually getting her fighting with an X unitnote ; the Eagle Squadron in question still being under the Government in Exile's control, NOT X.
Just came across Pinkie Personalities (FIMFiction.net link), and out of curiosity started reading it. Are the spoiler tags currently present in the TVT article really necessary?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Hi Marq! Long time, no see. Did you get further with watching the show? We were enjoying your reactions.
I don't know the fic in question, so don't know about the spoilers.
No, haven't made any progress, unfortunately.
As for the fic's spoilers, the ones presently on the page all come from chapters 3 (where the Pinkamena personality explains her origin, after having told the origin story for Surprise) and 9 (where Pinkie's tormentor, the ex-psychologist Neuron Probe is revealed to have returned to being an active force). Neither seem like spoilers to me; the former is way too early and also heavily foreshadowed in the first two chapters by Pinkie's panic and breaking into a sobbing fit over realizing that there's no way she could get out of explaining her condition to Twilight, while the latter is not at all surprising for a development and was already foreshadowed in preceding chapters by Pinkie's continuing and gradually-increasing-in-severity doozy-alarms. Not to mention that the chapters aren't that long, so using a chapter-based count to determine whether or not something is "deep" enough into the story to count as a spoiler would be a terribly inaccurate measure.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I Am Awkward (Yellow). Only two chapters published yet, but this one's shaping up to be pretty good. It's a Moondancer/Fluttershy shipfic, a pairing that I don't recall seeing done before but makes perfect sense in retrospect. And it looks like there's going to be plenty of examination of how the relationship affects all their friends.
Chapter VI of Lessons in Chaos is drafted.
Jesus Christ, this portion of the story. This and the last two chapters were supposed to be a single chapter, but, uh...it ran long. Really, really long. I sorely underestimated how long it would take to get to this particular introduction.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I feel like that's par for the course and why stuff that's more doorstopper than some of the longest published books are thrown around FiMFic like candy.
I know I frequently divide chapters in half because details or dialogue in one scene get away from me.

FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiDoes anybody have any advice for a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic crossover with franchises that have a darker mood and darker themes?
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Advice for writing one, or are you looking for a good one to read?
The former.
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Depends on exactly what you mean by 'darker'. MLP has actually dealt with fairly dark subject matter in the past, including death, slavery, cults, etc.
So if you're looking at, say, Warhammer 40 K, sure it's going to go a little over the threshold. But honestly, 99% of the things you could crossover with MLP can stand toe-to-toe with in terms of darkness.
The difference is in how the narrative treats these things. The characters are resilient in the face of suffering and things mostly work out for the best. Ultimately, the failures pale in comparison to the successes. Bad things happen, but their weight isn't felt as deeply as it is in, say, John Wick.
So you kinda have a couple of options. You can either filter the other work through MLP's sensibilities—where bad things happen but the ending is happy so it all works out—or you can filter MLP through the other thing's sensibilities—where the weight and consequence of actions is felt.
TL;DR MLP is already dark, it just doesn't present itself as such. Making a thematically and tonally consistent crossover is just a matter of keeping the narrative perspective on the events consistent.

This is another big one. <.< I thought about splitting it into two chapters, but couldn't think of a good place to put a chapter break.

Here, rough draft.
Title, thinkin': "Walk About"
Chapter VII of Lessons in Chaos is now live. ^.^
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Sorry I still haven't gotten back to Lessons in Chaos, the plot points hit my personal nope buttons, with extra emphasis on personal because none of them are condemnation of the work.
But I noticed you did read mine! Thoughts?
S'okay, it happens. So far, it's my lowest rated work on Fimfic which, like I said, it happens. They can't all be winners. ^.^ I'm about midway through the second act right now; I've still got a ways to go before I close out the story, but I'm still enjoying it, and I think that's what matters most.
That said, worldbuilding is hard and I'm at a part that I know is going to rub some folks the wrong way since I've got Twilight now discovering the details of the ruined parallel Equestria. The design philosophy going into it was "A world without mercy"; an Equestria where the magic of friendship had never taken root and second chances had never been offered.
But that's not exactly to everyone's tastes. I can't blame anyone for bailing. Still gonna finish it, though.
For your new chapter, I noticed it's a bit slower paced than the previous one. It doesn't have quite the same frantic energy that consumed Pinkie's date with Rarity, but that's appropriate because AJ warrants a slower approach.
I particularly like how Apple Bloom and Big Mac just seem tremendously amused by this whole thing.
