Turns out I needed some fresh air, and ETC doesn't wrap up so badly. Bumpy road, but for what it's worth I reversed my downvote and leave it up to anyone else to evaluate.

There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.

You know that cliché of referring to the Sun and Moon as "Celestia’s Sun" and "Luna’s Moon"? I wrote something silly about that. And then it kind of spun off in a different direction.

But clearly one with lots of foreshadowing, right?

For real though, I actually do think those two would make a cute couple, but I don't think I'm up to writing a serious version of their relationship.

I guess?

Romance is cute and ponies are cute, so most any two ponies could conceivably make a cute couple.

I plan to Ship Tease all over the place. IE, Rarity tries to hook-up Applejack, who is attracted to "soft" mares in my 'verse, with Coco Pommel, except Coco is attracted to Rarity and Rarity would be attracted Applejack if a pre-established platonic relationship weren't a complete turn-off to her. Applejack once tried to pair-up Bic Mac, who shares AJ's taste in mares, with Fluttershy, in the past. AJ pined for Fluttershy too, but knew Fluttershy was far more attracted to Big Mac's type than her and tried to be the "bigger mare" about it. Her interference and their shared reticence soured the whole thing and put to grave any chance of Flutter/Mac.

Rarity, besides her attraction to masculine mares, likes effeminate stallions, but laments that every one that caught her eye ended in disaster. Fluttershy is attracted to effeminate mares as well as masculine stallions, and shares with Coco how she too has pined for Rarity, unattainable to the both of them. This isn't helped by the fact that Rarity refers to them alone as "dearest" and "my sweet" respectively. Twilight Sparkle has yet to figure out what she's attracted to, but she laments the fate of Flash Sentry, the poor guardsmen hounded right out of Equestria by the media and Twilight's "fans" when he flirted with her once.

Rainbow Dash likes stallions but is ultimately married to her career. She avoids stallions for this reason, as she doesn't want a relationship tearing her out of the sky. Even casual relationships are untenable because Rainbow's deeply buried inner romantic won't let her do casual. Oh, and Pinkie's sexuality is a goddamn roulette wheel.

...

My favorite ship is Unrequited.

Blarg I really need to get back to writing. Hopefully I can do that this weekend. All this week I've been working double jobs.

How plausible is this AU?

Sonic Rainboom never happens. Filly Twilight doesn't hatch Spike's egg, so she assumes the worst and thinks she won't be accepted into Celestia's school. She gets so freaked out about this, a few days later she runs away from home. She runs into Starlight Glimmer. Glimglam is a young adult at this point, has just worked out her Equalist philosophy—and sees young, blank-flank Twilight as a perfect test case. Fast forward a few years: Glimmy is the cult leader of Our Town, and Twi is her surrogate daughter and faithful student.

(Meanwhile, Moondancer slots almost perfectly into Twilight's canon role. So the world doesn't go to hell because Moondancer and the Elements of Harmony keep saving it.)

There are two challenges there. Personality wise, moondancer is sensitive to betrayal. She would probably be resistant to leaving canterlot for ponyville, and have extra difficulty forming friendships. Twilight is a lifelong learner. She would be unhappy anywhere without books and would ask too many questions.

I think it's plausible, but there is [up] that issue, as well as the nitpick that Starlight probably isn't older than Twilight, at least not by that much. That said, you could probably fudge those numbers pretty easily.

Oh, definitely agreed on Twilight chafing under Equalism. In this AU, Twi would eventually figure out by herself that Starlight is full of it, and expose her.

I just have to say that I love hypothetical stories where someone does something impossible and impressive on a whim, like write their name on the moon then reality ensues.

How do you write that ship? Twicora? I like it.

Just spotted in the feature box: What's in the Box?. It's an experiment in taking a brief prompt and spinning it in a bunch of different directions, each a different genre. And then Pinkie from the "Random" genre breaks the fourth wall, and the entire story goes off the rails.

I love it.

So after mulling over for several months, I finally decided that it was time to start on a new long-term story. There's still some thing I need to do to prepare, and I'll be switching over to working on a Christmas Story soon. But for the time being, it would be much appreciated if anyone were willing to take a look at the first chapter of The Chains You Wear: In Which Suspicions Arise. (chapter name subject to change).

If anyone were looking for motivation to do a trope page of The Colour You Bleed, well...

Ooh yay.

I'm considering trying a Christmas story, myself. "Their Old Familiar Carols Play" as a title in mind. Theme would probably be some kind of "peace on earth" thing, but I'm not sure what kind of story to build around that.

I've decided to work on a shorter, novella-length story set in the universe of my 40k/TCB crossover. It's about a newfoal conscript in the army who was originally a seminary student and his general attempts to survive the war and the horrible injustices inflicted upon newfoals and human troops. Now I sort of had this sub-plot where before he was drafted, he managed to smuggle a single booknote  out of the university library before it's burned (the entire archives are in the process of being destroyed as it pertains to the infidelic Imperial Cult of the Imperium), and he tries to save it, even copying it down. Should I continue to have the story be about the actual war with the book being a sub-plot, or should I try and focus entirely on his attempts to save the book? What exactly should the relationship to the war be?

Well, um, if you want to write The Epic, then I think the focus needs to be on smaller subplots like the book thing.

“We did it,” said Gunner, beaming. “We did a good deed and now we don’t have to worry about getting shot for ‘harboring the enemy.’ I’d call that a win-win.”

Scroll sighed happily. “Well, technically that’s not a win-win, a win-win is - wait.” He stopped, seeming to count things out in his head. “Well, a win-win for us and him.” He pointed at the shrinking form of Eagle. “Not so much a win-win for us and, well, Quake.”

“Two ponies won,” said Gunner. “Wait. Do I count me?”

“Sure.”

“So three ponies won,” said Gunner. “That makes it a win-win-win.”

"But for it to be a win-win there has to be a conflict between the two. Or three, in our case. We didn't really have a conflict."

"Sure we did. He wanted to murder you at first and then Trigger Mark and I came to shoot him. And you didn't want us to shoot him," said Gunner. "Wait... if we're adding Trigger Mark, would that make a win-win-win-win? Or did he not get anything?"

"That's actually a really good point..."

Could I get away with having a depiction of Kelpies in a fic that isn't based off the comics version? I haven't read the comics nor do I really intend to, but I'd like for a Kelpie to play a major role in setting the plot of one of my other fics off.

Kelpie appeared in a single issue of MLP. Anyway, virtually all mythological creatures are implied to exist in equestria.
