Knights is a short-running shounen that ended way before its time due to its parent magazine going out of business. Drat!

In a fantasy expy of the Holy Roman Empire, the Church is conducting mass witch hunts. It's up to a secular order of knights known as the Hammer of Holy Men to set right this injustice and end the witch hunts that have ended thousands of innocent lives.

Warning! Extreme fanservice.

In this setting, warriors venerated by the Church are known as "Saints" and are gifted with holy relics that give them supernatural powers. The Hammer of Holy Men, on the other hand, is an organisation made entirely of Badass Normals relying only on their swordsmanship, wit and courage.

One notable factor is the protagonist's mastery of an obscure German martial art, which certainly exists but has been mostly ignored by Western media. While it's certainly very shounen'd up (which is even more amusing if you're a real-life practitioner), it consistently gets the foundational concepts absolutely correct. Shown Their Work indeed.

Anyone read this? Most of it can be found online with fan translations, which is fantastic given its obscurity.

Just marathoned the released chapters through, having been put in the mood for medieval fantasy by Game Of Thrones, and I must say it was pretty okay. The shonen-ness of it all is indeed kinda lulzy, but it contrasts fascinatingly with how grimdark the rest of the setting is.

Please be gentle with me.

I knew you'd have to make a thread for it. XD I knew it!

I kinda feel like the series didn't go into enough depth with Nina's reasons for going temporarily nuts. And Euphie's whole deal could have been handled a bit more tastefully; it would've been darker, but hell, prison rape is dark and next to no one just shrugs it off!

That said, this book needs either a continuation or an anime right fucking now.

<_<;

On Euphie's dealio, I liked that it wasn't the standard "RUINED FOREVER" thing. People handle trauma in different ways, except rape victims in media, who all shrivel for years. Not that I want to trivialise victims, but it's nice to have that difference, y'know? And I think her getting over it after a couple of years was a way of showing that she wasn't automatically tainted by the experience.

That said, I can understand the other perspective.
