Roblox

Okay, time for a Roblox thread.

To those who don't know about it, Roblox is a multi-player online game with Lego-esque bricks. Instead of the staff just making all the games, the players build and script their own places, creating a variety of games.

Pro: A lot of the games are great. For example, there are two good replicas of Call of Duty, some good mini-games, lots of fighting games...I like the avatars. My regular avatar is a Robloxian.

Con: Surgeons Law is in effect. Accused of being an Allegedly Free Game due to the paid members receiving more and more benefits. In the comments, it is pretty like You Tube, except it's a PG version with kids, and more spam. Bad forums.

What do you think of Roblox?

Ah yes, Roblox. It's like Minecraft with a bigger focus on creating.

As a comparison, in Minecraft you would have to take things block by block.

In Roblox you are blessed with god like powers. You don't have to worry about single bricks, and you can save the structures you've built.

Actually, it wouldn't be that hard to make a miniature Minecraft using Roblox. You can make pretty good sized sandboxes by resizing the baseplates.

Also, scripting! When you learn how to script virtually anything is possible. You can make set pieces, objective markers, vehicles, nearly anything you can think of.

If you like creating stuff, play Roblox.

Haha oh wow I remember this game. Now you got me feeling nostalgic.

Actually, I think they do have a Minecraft place there. It's more of a mini-Creative Mode with the emphasize on placing blocks, but it's there.

I really need to script, so I can use Roblox to create videos.

Hmm I never did get into roblox. When the fandom is full of Asshats joining a new game is a trick.

Don't worry, if you ignore the comments, it'll be fine. Just watch out for any noobs...

The current jerk magnet: That one zombie place by [DATA REDACTED] which changes titles every few days. The creator remade a un-copylocked game without giving credit, therefore becoming the number one place for You Tube/ish comments.

On a lighter note, I'm an expert at Gallons. I'm so good, people accuse me of hacking. I'm just a good aimer.

Roblox has a lot of good zombie games. Nerf Modder, a guy particularly good at making zombie games, typically has you parachuting into a city full of zombies where you have to survive.

The last one I played you had a health meter that would begin to fall unless you found food and water. Zombies would get you if you couldn't find weapons.

It's a pretty good game.

I have joined ROBLOX since Jan. 2nd, 2008, my account is blahblah26. I played it until mid-2008, when my computer crashed from viewing a DARN HUGE script from Roblox Studio. I went back again on the same profile in late 2010. I got BC, but now it's expired, I think. I have like 9 places under construction.

Wow, people don't pay attention to this thread.

The only bad thing about Roblox nowadays is that it's full of sore losers who don't have correct grammar, and of all the pointless junk updates that turned it into a pile of crap.

Roblox is full of asshats and douchebags.

That being said, Roblox is the closest a normal person will ever get to an all extensive 3D game making platform, whilst being for free, and simple to use (if you know Lua).

I'm kinda in a Love/hate relationship with this game.

I had some friends who were pretty good scripters. VIP doors were becoming increasingly popular, since it was the Roblox equivilent of premium passes. Usually the door would kill you or not let you pass through, but my friend invented a ban door. If your name was not on the list, you would be banned from the game. It was a fun noob trap.

I remember Roblox well. It was a good game, but the admins have sort of gimped it. It's not as good as it once was.

Had anyone else seen the commercials that Roblox made?

No.

I remember the original trailers. The ones which showed of the destruction and PVP. And they had some pretty good music to boot!

I don't really go on Roblox now, since my BC expired, so now regular ads come, and even pop-ups come. It's really frustrating.

I made a new place, it's called "Robloxia Raceway", it has 5 racetracks so far. It's 95% created by me. If you want to test it, my account is blahblah26.

: I visited one of Nerf Modder's places. It was really good, when you spawn in the helicopter and you have to jump down into the darkness, where you start killing zombies. (Those zombies are named "Zack", I guess it's a free model.)

Actually, Nerf made them himself. He just likes calling them Zacks.

At least it is still a great game. Here is my place.

I played ROBLOX, I remember finding a place which isn't just ideas from or the exact same as another place is difficult. The same obstacle course appears over and over again with slightly more misleading titles each time. However, when you do find a original place, there are some amazing ones out there. Its a shame that the most played places tend to be the unoriginal copyed ones, mostly because they are time consuming, not because they are fun. (Tycoons, I'm looking at you, at least the 'watch boxes fall in a hole' one that always appears.)

Half the time I spent was in creative mode messing around with the models.

I had everything from water to teleportation devices. So much fun. I left because of the community as well. The mods are just awful.

Sturgeon's Law applies.

The best way to describe Roblox is that it's like Youtube for video games.

The comments on games are all this, but with ten times the spam.

Tycoons and obstacle courses are terrible, I'd rather look for places that are unique and original.

I'm a bit curious as to how the mods and admins act there.

As for the game itself, my friend's younger bro played it last time I was at their house.
