[up] [up]Yeah, I know, I'm honestly just tired of seeing what, to me, seems like a crapload of people got their hopes up about the Duke and were only disappointed by the fact that Duke Nukem Forever isn't the best game ever. (Note: I've yet to actually play DNF myself, I will once I save up for a copy. Also, 10..1st post. Fscking post ninjas.)

Eh, the good part about the PC version being on Steam is, well, you know...

Honestly, it's not bad, it's not great either.

For the "people are offended" part, I kinda get this.

Duke 3d was a solid game, designed around gameplay first, and Duke's character grew out of it, as parody of a genre. His lines weren't numerous, and thus more memorable. There was more impact. Duke would only speak at certain point, or if he did a serious overkill.

DNF was the reverse. It was built AROUND Duke's character. The character came first, and the world and gameplay were designed around that character. The result is that rather than watching Duke going around the game doing things its way, we have a whole world that is built around the parody that is Duke himself. And Duke never shuts the fuck up. So every line of dialogue is him saying something mysoginistic, dumb, and offensive. So this made him less of a "parody of action heroes" and more the famously mentioned "creepy racist sexist uncle".

It's too much of a good thing. While Duke's eccentricities in Duke 3d were a welcomed change, in DNF, there's too many of them, it's no longer the nice little spice it used to be, it's agressive and annoying people.

Yeah, but it's no surprise since Duke's lines got quoted so damn much that people forgot where they really originated from.

I honestly have to say that I can't imagine being in the position of reviewing this game and not taking into account that they've had 14 years to work on it. I fthe company that finally finished it had said "Look, we scrapped about 75% of what was done 'cause it was crap, and then did what we could with what was left to salvage it" I think that the reviewers would have been more lenient. But instead they said "Oh, hey, we just put a last polish on what they gave us."

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
