Are they going to take on a different "group of annoying people you can find on the Internet" every week ? (After condescending snarky assholes, we've now got crazy shippers.)

If so, awesome. I'm starting to see why Gainax would involve themselves in such a project...

...so how was the transcript for the third book sent to Dalian in the end? Did he mail it to Dalian the day before knowing full well he's going to die for good that night?

And it's a bit late, but I just noticed, while everyone in this show is white, Dalian is super white. It's like she dips herself in flour everyday.

[up]

It also contrasts against her hair.

But of course, Dalian is almost certainly not human anyway.

What really confuses me is...why didn't Lenny just write the story like she wanted? I'm sure she made it pretty obvious how she wanted the book to go. Just write it like how she wants it .

The worse that could happen is she somehow kills both of them and leave them for dead. But that happens in the end anyways.

I think Lenny was getting himself killed on purpose so his girlfriend could live and have a chance to escape. If he had capitulated then Crazy Shipper would have kept him alive to make more and his girlfriend stay dead.

Because that isn't how he wants it to end? I mean, the story is his creation, his master work. If he was forced to change to please some ungrateful fans, it would ruin the experience for him.

Then again, the original story/ending apparently had him introducing a new female character from nowhere for the lead to hook up with, which would have pissed off the Yaoi fanbase the series ended up with. (and actually did. I was pretty amused that Dalian and the villain's reactions to the original ending were pretty close to each other. Only with Dalian not going nuts over it of course)

And yes, this is the first episode where I noticed just how pale Dalian is. Wonder why people don't ask questions about it.

Maybe they think she's ill and don't want to call attention to it in front of what appears to be a kid. Maybe the older people in the setting look on her with approval as a delicate young beauty in a world gone to tomboyishness and going-outside-without-a-hat-ness.

I love how Dalian's first instinct is to write a Fix Fic. It's so deliciously her.

@Jhiday: If Gainax decides to do this, I will forever love this series. Funny how the internet doesn't exist in their time, though.

It is. It leaves one fragile and pale and hacking pitiably. As diseases go, that's pretty aesthetically-pleasing. Plus it gives one's beau the opportunity to play tender nurturer/defender, and I like that game every now and then.

Episode 6 from the Niconico simulcast.

Looks like this episode focuses about a new, more Badass duo.

Very interesting. The plot thickens?

EDIT: I suggest watching the episode before reading this? Spoilers? Sorry.

Also, as for the other duo, I see them as sort of like...not Evil Counterparts necessarily, more like Antiheroic Counterparts maybe? If you think about it, what the two duos do seems to be pretty similar (investigate and deal with Phantom Book related events) but while Huey and Dalian just retrieve the books (only burning them on one instant, and even then, Dalian said she had a "first edition" of that book anyway) and use them when summoning them in battle, these guys outright burn them, and fight by summoning books to burn as fuel for the staff.

Of course, that is just my first impressions of them. Let the plot thicken some more!

Dude, was that Dalian who gave the lady the phantom book surprised. If nothing else, I think the show wants to make it look that way.

"Libricide" >.<

[up] Considering that there are others like Dalian around, maybe it's some other girl.

Anyway, the duo this episode was kickass. Though while the book-powered flamethrower was cool I reckon it's going to get boring if they whip it out every time. Maybe the flames change depending on the book? That would spice things up. At the very least it helps that the guy knows baritsu and the girl is hella sturdier than Dalian.

Though, considering that he's a Libricide officer, they're probably going to end up clashing with Huey and Dalian at one point.

I've spoilered a bunch of stuff just in case.

[up][up]No, that was the girl with the eye-patch lock you see in the opening. These two mistakenly believe this to be Dantalian. Thus the aforementioned clash.

figured it was something like that, there's no way Dalian would let someone keep a phantom book.

Considering it looked and sounded nothing like Dalian, I find it odd you thought it was her.

It was a really short scene of a girl, shadowed with black hair, and a guy from the back who vaguely looked liek he could have been Huey or a relation of his, and she was younger and shorter than Dalian, so I did notice that and thought it odd. But then the Libricide guy kept saying it was "the blackprincess" who did it. And it hasn't actually come out and said she doesn't age. I dunno, I figured it was possible, but not likely.

You know, on the latest episode, when the obligatory crazy nutcase confronted out book burner, she said something about how he would never have the time to read the Phantom Book.

Am I the only one that immediately snarked "well, that has never been a problem before".

My question was How does everyone and their grandma know about Phantom Books and how they work?

Maybe every book comes with a few first pages on "Phantom Book and how they work".

Letting powerful shit like that laying about in the world is one thing, but it would be even worse if they didn't come with a manual of sorts.

Started up this show and it's pretty easily the best show this summer. The animation is great, but what would you expect from Gainax? I think the dynamic between Huey and Dalian is really fun, if not wholly original.

The show gets kind of hard to follow when Dalian becomes 'unlocked' but I imagine I'll get the hang of it.
