Isn't it about time Mario and Sonic starred in a platformer?
"Religion isn't the cause of wars, it's the excuse." —Mycroft NextI'm not positive, but I think either Nintendo or Sega brushed that question off with "The gameplay styles are too different" or some such nonsense.
Welcome to th:|Wow, that is nonsense.
"Religion isn't the cause of wars, it's the excuse." —Mycroft NextI suppose that statement holds water when comparing the two franchises now, the two are different. However, in the past, they aren't that different (Mario can't use the spin dash though.) So I suppose they might be able to find a way to do that, though it'll involve a lot of tweaks and stuff.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!
While a platformer would make more sense, I'd like to see them in an RPG Crossover together.

Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!^^^ Agreed so hard. Especially with Sonic Team currently making a game with two very different gameplay styles: just make something like that, with levels that are in the others' setting but with gameplay different for each character. It's not that hard to think up.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Okay, I found the article. Apparently the issue was actually that Nintendo and Sega couldn't agree on a setting, since they felt the game had to be in a neutral location due to the characters being from two different worlds.

Sega, Nintendo, that's not even hard. I mean... are Green Hill Zone and Level 1-1, as rendered in today's graphics, really that different? And, if so, why can't Mario and Sonic both go someplace they've never been before? If they can go to strange new worlds, dimensions, and planets in their solo games, surely they can also do it in a tandem game? That sounds like a transparent excuse to me. I bet the real reason is that they're both too proud to let their guy hang out with their onetime rival.

"Religion isn't the cause of wars, it's the excuse." —Mycroft NextI figure the easiest thing to do would be a mix of their worlds. A world merger. The final plot can involve Robotnik Eggman Robotn Eggm Ro Eg Sonic's nemesis and Bowser teaming up for some sort of world merging plot.
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation....
Wouldn't the whole point of a crossover to bring together the various elements of the two series, and not have them randomly be somewhere unrelated?
Aww, whatever. I don't care what they say right now, eventually this is going to happen. We all know it. It's just a matter of time before some group of developers get it working.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Playing the first Mario And Luigi game again. I like the other games, especially playing as Bowser, but you know what I like here compared to the other ones? They actually tried to write around the Bros' Intelligible Unintelligible status instead of sticking them with a talking sidekick who could essentially be their voice whenever dialogue needed to happen.
Also I like Cackletta's Leitmotif.
Text I feel is necessary to append to every post.I guess Mario and Sonic could be in a 2D platformer together. Mario could handle those loops with no problem considering he can run up walls easily, and Sonic would have no problem handling those tricky Mario jumps.
I don't think Mario and Sonic could even attempt a 3D platformer with a so-called "neutral location". 3D Sonic levels have always remained linear, while 3D Mario is all over the place on the Sliding Scale of Linearity vs. Openness.

Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Speaking of the Mario and Luigi series, I'm probably going to get Partners in Time soon.
I'm alive and less annoying than ever before.I've been thinking it would be cool to have an open world Mario platformer...like Super Mario 64, but instead of going through paintings in a hub you'd travel all over the Mushroom Kingdom collecting stars.

Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!I agree, but maybe it should be expanded to the entire Mushroom World rather than just the Mushroom Kingdom.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I think most games would be significantly improved if they were more like Banjo Tooie.
I don't think Nintendo realizes there's a difference anymore.
"Religion isn't the cause of wars, it's the excuse." —Mycroft NextI think Banjo Tooie had my favorite hub ever (Isle O'Hags). There should be more like it
Agreed.
On another note, do you guys think there will be a chance for the Kuribo's Shoe to return?

My brother just said something very awesome about this series the other day:
"By now, it's just a friendly game of 'capture the flag' between Mario and Bowser- and the flag is Peach."
And as you can tell, I recently got Bowser's Inside Story, and it is awesome. Fawful has chortles!
