I like to think Jesus was born out of infidelity and that the visions were caused by the horrendous stench of living inside a barn with animals.

The problem with the second movie concept is that wont really come off as horrific for the "right reasons" for pro-choicers. It'll just leave a bad taste in our mouth and come off as condescending.

Speaking as a pro-choicer, the idea of a movie like that would quickly come off to me as "BABIES MAKE YOUR LIFE BETTER" "YOU RUINED YOUR LIFE BY NOT VALUING HUMAN LIFE!" "YOU DESERVE TO SUFFER!"

[up] That's what I was thinking too. Women go through heartwrenching decisions to have abortions. Some have more moral qualms than others. In the end, it is her choice and I don't think that either decision is morally right or wrong, nor do we have the right to label each choice as such.

I agree it should be the choice of the women in question, Suzy.

I disagree that we can't judge her for those choices however.

[up] I think that we are capable of judging her but we are never capable of judging fairly. Humans live in a state of profound isolation as they will never know what it is like to be another person.

I do not particularly like the idea of using a horror flick as a vehicle to state a position about this sort of controversial subject, but if one must do it, I'd go Cosmic Horror Story.

Random idea, for example.

A private investigator is hired by a wealthy man to investigate a doomsday cult and recover his daughter from it. Not much is known about the cult, except that it uses a lot of imagery related to pregnancy and childbirth and the man is worried that they might do something untoward with his daughter. The investigator has a lot of difficulty infiltrating the cult — the cultists are very suspicious, and they live in an isolated area, and their security system is top-notch.

Eventually, he manages to get in, posing as a potential convert, and is immediately brought to the cult leader. The leader reveals that he knows perfectly well who he is, and wants to reassure him — they are not that sort of people, they did nothing like that to the daughter. But since he is here, and since he expressed interest (fake though it may have been) for their cult, would he like to learn a little bit about it? The investigator accepts, mostly in order to get some more time, and the cult leader starts talking.

The cult believes that humankind is evolving towards higher and higher levels of consciousness, and that terrestrial life as a whole diversifies and proceeds towards higher complexity and beauty (you know, a slightly more mystical version of Henri Bergson's ideas), and that eventually all terrestrial life will be joined into some sort of singularity which will create of being of incredible power — a god, basically, who would join the ranks of the other gods who roam through space and who, perhaps, would in turn seed some new planet with life.

So the cult is devoted to accelerating this "singularity", which they call "The Second Birth" or something like that. Or at least, it was, until this morning when the cult leader received another revelation. Earth life, and humankind, are a mistake. They were created by a "god", and could become one if given enough time, but it was not the intention of the god to do so, and — for reasons that are incomprehensible to the human mind — the god has decided that he does not want to allow earth life to become another god. Soon, Earth will be destroyed. The leader then disbands the cult, and tells the daughter to follow the investigator back to her parents — since it is all futile now, she may as well stay with them if this is going to make them happier.

The movie closes with the investigator driving the daughter back to the city, while the sky takes bizarre colors and the wind starts howling in a strange way.

[up]I'm getting a sort of end of eva feel

Humans live in a state of profound isolation as they will never know what it is like to be another person.

Well I know that that is the case for you and I, suzy. But I believe that the rest of mankind is not as incapable of human empathy

I never watched end of eva, to be honest. I have seen the TV series, it was nice but the ending was really too sloppy.

In any case, the "empathy" thing is not really part of the idea I mentioned.

I was just taking "Ascending To A Higher State Of Consciousness (through some sort of Assimilation Plot, and stealing some ideas from Bergson and from de Chairdin) as a metaphor for childbirth, in order to pull a "aargh we are getting destroyed by our 'parent' and nothing of all that we could become matters anymore" and use it as a metaphor for abortion.

That is a pretty interesting concept and not an Anvilicious one (I haven't caught it the first time I read your post). To be honest, I don't remember hearing any anti-abortion story with a subtly put message before

BTW, Eo E has more traditional storytelling thant TV ending so you might like it

I wrote a little short story on another forum about a concept related to aliens aborting the Earth. It was actually another pro-lifer who suggested the concept of aliens aborting the Earth, and I was mocking it.

Here, I think I'll repost it:

[Somewhere in some bank vault that has been sealed shut by the alien's first weapon blast with two people, MARK and VERONICA]

MARK:And thus you see what GOD truly thinks about the ABORTION of unborn BABIES! Soon we'll be just as DEAD as all of those BABIES that you SLAUGHTERED last TUESDAY in your abortion clinic, VERONICA!

VERONICA:Shut the fuck up, Mark.

MARK:Haha, this is just like one of those old Twilight Zone EPISODES where Rod Serling INTRODUCED you to a world where metaphors showed you true MORALITY!

VERONICA:Why the hell do you emphasize random words?

MARK:BECAUSE I am a VISONARY... and you ARE not!

VERONICA:[Stares angrily, rolls eyes]

MARK:[Muttering]Stupid liberal heathen bitch.

[Awkard silence, followed by the appearance of GOD in a Princess Leia-esque hologram, looking very worried]

GOD:Hey, uh, guys? Bad news about the heaven thing. Those guys behind me are about to kill me (they're the same aliens who are trying to kill you), so everyone's just going to go to hell. ...stay the course, umm... rather than try and fixing this problem it'll be easier for everyone to just stay in hell.

VERONICA:It's okay. I was an athiest anyways.

GOD:[Dies, dissapears]

VERONICA:I still don't believe in you.

MARK:No! It can't be! It must be an ILLUSION from the DEVIL! But if it is, then why am I spiritually feeling this sense of... LOSS?

VERONICA:Because you're about to die?

MARK:NO!

[Longer, awkwarder silence]

VERONICA:Let's fuck.

MARK:Why the hell not.

[Fade out]

At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...
