So I want to elaborate on a character, so which sounds like the most interesting at the moment?

Cyril, maybe?

Cyril and Melissa have kind of a Pink Boy, Blue Girl thing. He's a very severe case of "Well Done, Son" Guy in regards to his mother. Ever seen Red Dwarf, he's kinda Rimmer like? Has OCD due to his mum inflicting nightmares on him involving disease and decay. He's ver nervous about physical contact partly because of that, and he has a touch of death that's nearly completely under his control, he wears gloves because of it, even to bed. Also his favoroute colour is pink. Obsessed with the concept of justice, and wants desperately to be remembered, fond of archtecture.

Interesting mix of traits. He could be a difficult main character to sympathise with, though, so watch out for that.

And I loved Red Dwarf.

He eventually morphs into a weird mix of of the Tenth Doctor and Rimmer.

Took a Level in Badass, nice.

The trick will be persuading readers to stick with him long enough to see that.

He does become less of a arsehole, so another character?

Yes it is. Mel is venomous, very knowledgeable and knows it. Imagine a fire in the middle of a glacier. Calm caulculating... But on the inside she's in tears. Finds it hard sometimes to emphasize with people who aren't Cyril. Reacts very weirdly to affection, especially from adults, huge bookworm, kind of sporty. Has a thing for animals, would make a great solider.

Hm... I think I'd find her the more sympathetic of the two.

Why?

Just the specific personalities you described, hers sounds more likeable. If she's fond of animals, she's clearly not devoid of empathy, she just has trouble relating to people.

That might just be me. Don't take it as a general rule.

I think Mel could be interesting if played right. She sounds almost bipolar or manic-depressive, since her mood swings gradually but dramatically.

So I kinda want witch, wizard, warlock, sorcerer ectera to mean different things, any thoughts? And how could witch gifts and spellls relate to each over? Also what could be a ranking system for witches?

Just wondering, when you say Academy of Magical Sciences, what does the latter means? You mean they actually combine?

They apply the scientific method to magic.

My suggestion: Don't bother trying to make Cyril more likeable at the start, because you have Character Development for that. Just make him believably human.

So any thoughts on how to rank witches? And does this sound like a good end goal (being C and M) for Baldur's breeding plan? Witches who generate magic internally instead of drawing it from the universe.

Any thoughts on stuff that could determine witch gifts? Aside from ancestry?

why do you want rank and name to mean anything? if you're trying to combine rule magic with witch species there seems to be a misconnect between the two.

Could be their equivelent of having a PHD, like "Nobody wants to hire a petty witch"
