Is it just me, or does Rogue seem to have picked up a mild case of the Idiot Ball in this story so far while Virus was given a Smart Ball?

Given how out-of-element the Daemon Hunters as a whole have acted, maybe this is just a remnant of that old lifestyle popping up at the worst possible time.

More serious backstory, more of Rogue being dumb, and more of Virus sucking at art.

Ignorance is not the same as stupidity... although it can get you just as dead.

He's a daemon hunter, and up until this arc was pretty much the only one taking Inquisition work seriously 100% of the time. He also values knowledge more so than others - his reason for temporarily leaving the group was to learn more so he could improve.

Now compare all of that to how he's acted so far.

He's not up against a demon this time though.

So you're telling me that daemon worshipers don't have the capacity to hold clandestine meetings in secret underground tunnels with the entrance of their choosing covered by a suspicious-looking abandoned warehouse?

I think the problem is we need this exposition, but both of these guys should really know this stuff. One of them would end up looking dumb either way. They probably flipped a coin or something.

I think it's more that Rogue might not be as historically well-versed as Eastwood and Virus seem to be. Would make sense: he isn't taking this as seriously because he doesn't know the true extent of the threat. Keep in mind that Rogue is still a sort of relative newcomer, while East and Virus have been at their job for long enough to know their shit.

Yeah... that happens. Particularly if parts of the manual passed through Russian at one point...

So, hypothetically...

Russians make a cheap knock-off of a Japanese design, translate the manual from Japanese to Russian. Chinese then swipe it from Russia, and then translate its manual to Mandarin Chinese (IIRC the dominant dialect).

Yeah, madness and bleeding from the eyes is the least of his problems.

Well, if they're trying to translate something that goes as well as Korean >> English using one of those... Yup: snookered.
