I wonder if we'll have Dust-Kill.com and people posting up links in local chat as bragging rights.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.thats old
Ah damn, that is old. Someone shared it with me and I didn't read the timestamp
Hey, I've been given two beta keys for the game to give out to those interested. First come first serve basis to those who ask.
every little word and every little stepThe game is coming soon since the beta is already out. When the time comes, does anyone want to make a Troper merc organization?
1Up on Dust 514. Basically, they're saying it sucks, but have to couch it with phrases like "in its current state", etc. Of course, Dust 514 is close to the end of development, so either it releases in its suckitude, or it becomes vaporware.
Jonah FalconForgive me for my brashness, but it seems like that's a bit sensationalist. It sounds refreshingly different if the article is anything to go by. Basically, the only "flaw" they mentioned is lack of COD-like matchmaking, which is invalid since every game can't and shouldn't be like COD.
Saying "Translation-It sucks" is a bit extreme.
"Refreshingly different" sounds an awful lot like "It's not a bug, it's a feature!"
Jonah FalconNo, it means "It isn't like Call of Duty or Battlefield". Those games have their place, but every game shouldn't try to be like them. It's nice to have a little diversity. I would appreciate it if you wouldn't try and put words in my mouth.

Well, as someone who played the beta myself, I was pretty disappointed. It just isn't very fun. And logging in takes ages.
every little word and every little stepNot being able to do key configs for keyboard/mouse, for starters? That's NOT a "feature".
Jonah FalconThat's disappointing. Anything in particular you don't like?
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote? It is a feature. It's having the controls (and whatever other settings can't be changed) optimized out of the box .

I've always wondered why PC gamers love configuring controls that much. It honestly sounds like a Single-Issue Wonk to me. I think it's ridiculous that an entire game would be demonized for a lack of customizable controls.
As for gameplay, it very well could be bad. I haven't played it yet, so I don't know yet.

It's just one of those things that show whether developers cared or not.
I love the concept of DUST and really love the EU and metaplot surrounding EVE so it would be a shame if the game was dull.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?I'm pretty sure that it's a given that you care if you're willing to take on such a risky project. They can't afford not to care.
x5 The gameplay is very uninspired. It feels like a second-rate Battlefield. The visuals are muddy and unappealing (I get that the game is called dust but come on.) There are way too many menus just to get your shit equipped, and no easy way to go about accessing these menus. You're able to pay real money for advantages in your gear.
I haven't played it in a while, so other complaints I have may elude me.

every little word and every little stepI can probably deal with the menus and bad visuals. What I can't deal with is some kind of absurdly powerful weapon that invalidates every other playstyle ala MAG's LMG.
Lol, I remember the early days of the MAG beta, when people would snipe with the LMG. That was terrible. Pretty fun game otherwise though, from what I can remember.
I'm not sure about weapons in Dust as far as that goes. I didn't slog through for long enough to try them all. They're of specific types, like SMG, Shotgun, Pistol, Assault Rifle, the usual (but uninspired, especially for a future-in-space setting) fare, but there are different versions of each type that you can buy. For the most part, they all have the same model within each type, but you can buy an assault rifle that's burst, but more accurate, or more rapid, but with a lesser clip size, or a shotgun that is slow and holds very few shells, but more powerful and with greater range.
every little word and every little stepSo it's a lot like Battlefield 3 then? Tons of guns, but they're all pretty similar and only have minor differences such as greater/lesser recoil to set them apart? Hmm, kinda wish they'd be more creative than that... Why don't they try to do a Turok or Doom and add in some crazy, unique stuff for once?
The unique stuff is all going to EVE. It's where their money comes from after all.
Eve has always been about having a ton of options to balance each other out. Nothing's a gamebreaker because there's ten other potential gamebreakers out there. The league of legends approach, if you will.
I'm just sad that it's not fun to play. That's all I really ask of a game.

I have to admit that blowing up a titan or dredy from planet side thereby causing much raeg sounds incredibly amusing and totally worth buying a PS 3 for.
I also really, really like the idea of you buying equipment and losing it when you die. Probably my favorite part of EVE is destroying someone's incredibly expensive ship and seeing them have a meltdown in chat. If i can replicate that in an FPS I will be a very happy sadist.
