I agree totally... and then they would form into 4 defacto major parties and a bunch of smaller coalitions. And even then, the more conservative party would be more powerful than any single party which opposed it. I am for it were it to work, and against it because it won't work in this political climate.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryOh, I acknowledge that. Political parties would be formed regardless, but I still think it's dumb.

I just think of an old quote about capitalism that seems to fit: "The worst economic system we have is capitalism, except of course for all the other ones."
Just change capitalism to two party system.
But yeah, I'd much rather have a progressive party and or a liberal party...

Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryThe game designers just did a crappy job on the US electoral system, there's a two-party degenerate strategy that ruins everything. You get more political variety in Europe, where small parties can weight in on elections in a meaningful way.
Point that somewhere else, or I'll reengage the harmonic tachyon modulator. There's ol' Duverger.
[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.Potlitical parties are neccesary. Politics without them would be madness. Every person would voice their opinion and everyone would vote for themselves. It would be a train wreck.
Political parties form from people uniting together. If there's me and you working together, we're more likely to get elected then one person alone. So, groups of similar interest work together until they become one group.
How to solve it? Get rid of First Past the Post and get a good electoral system instead.
People have opinions. That is a simple fact. But do people only have one of two different opinions? Absolutely not. So why are there only two major political parties in the States? Why can't people just say their opinions. Sure, things might be a little more complex, but it would solve a ton of problems. What do you think?
