Two months ago, I was curious and wanted to see what Konami games Psycho Mantis, the No Fourth Wall boss of Metal Gear Solid, could read in one's Memory Cards. There is a list of quotes Mantis says out there on the web; but what are the games triggering them? I couldn't find any answer to that, so I went and made trial-and-error experiments.

I then created a list for the original Japanese version of MGS 1, on PS 1, that I have posted on a MGS thread on this forum (now I can't find this thread anymore).

A few days ago, I got two new JPN Konami games in my collection (Gradius Gaiden and Policenauts Private Collection), so I updated the list. In addition, I created today a similar list for the Integral version of MGS 1.

Sharing those lists to everyone curious, here are the links:

I have a question, though: this GameFAQs thread says that there is a "You like fighting games, don't you?" line in the U.S. version. I'm surprised: did Konami release at least two fighting games in the U.S. before 1999? In Japan, unless I did a mistake in my research, there was only two Fighting Games on PS 1: Lightning Legend: Daigo no Daibouken and Kensei: Sacred Fist; and only the second was released internationally.

If there are Street Fighter game saves in your memory card, Mantis knows

But those are Capcom games, not Konami ones. Can he really detect games made by other companies than Konami?

[up] I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult for a programmer to reverse-engineer a save file format. As long as they don't mention the game's name out loud, there probably isn't much Capcom could say about it, either.
