First off, I'd just like to say I have checked out the guidelines, and this trope name violates at least one rule, if not more than that.

The rule it violates would be that it's incoherent. Namely, it's a reference to someone making a reference to a movie and comparing one of the character's voices to a rather obscure location in Lord Of The Rings which, I think also makes it work dependent (rather, dependent on three individual works, see the page quote).

It's also damn hard to spell unless you're fluent in Dwarvish, which, I think I can safely assume most tropers aren't.

A good rename would probably be Cavernous Echo, it gets the point across and actually relates to the trope.

Support changing it to Cavernous Echo, or really any name other than the current one.

The last crowner on this exact topic has been attached. It has a lead rename candidate from that time around. Cavernous Accoustics. Should have been done.

Well, that makes things easier.

Although...am I failing at spelling, or shouldn't it be "acoustics" with one "c?"

32 wicks, 23 inbounds. Healthy, but not exactly booming, and I agree that the name is pretty obtuse.

Also, INUH is correct "Acoustics" is spelled wrong.

Added Cavernous Echo as an option, since it seems to be more indicative than "Acoustics" is, and also easier to spell.

Cavernous Echo has very quickly gained a lead over Cavernous Acoustics.

Anyway. I have never done this before, how does the actual rename take place?

I don't come to TRS that much, but if it works like Image Picking does, we generally wait until the thread's been around for a few days just to make sure it's a final consensus.

We generally give at least three days, depending on how much fluctuation there is in the votes and such.

The old name is turned into a redirect to the new name. The text of the article is copied and pasted into the new article.

And then you have to correct the indices it's on, and update Renamed Tropes, and if you're utterly insane go fix all its wicks to the new name... :P

Technically, all that's strictly necessary is moving the material over, creating the redirect, and indexing the new name in place of the old one.

For future reference, the Trope Renaming Guidelines cited in the OP aren't rules that names have to follow, they're reasons why we might attribute some problem with the trope (such as low usage or demonstrable misuse) to a poor name, and guidelines to follow when picking new names. They aren't concerns we look at until we've already determined that the trope needs to be repaired. In this case, the trope is receiving pretty low usage, and usage hasn't seen a significant increase since the last time it was brought up, so yeah, renaming here is good. But just FYI.

I prefer Cavernous Acoustics because this trope is specifically about music, not echoes in general. The word "Acoustic" carries that connotation better than "Echo".

Rhymes with "Protracted."

Yeah, Cavernous Acoustics sounds like a music trope. Cavernous Echo sounds like someone walking into a cave, saying hello, and having it bounce off the walls. That's not this trope. It's better than what we have now, but it's not as good as it could be.

The trope (so far as I can tell) refers specifically to use of echo and reverb, I just think that "Acoustics" might be a bit too vague.

Echoing Acoustics? I like the word acoustics because it emphasizes the musical bit of the trope.

Wait, Echoing Acoustics or Cavernous Echo? Cavernous is leading by +1 but Acoustics has a massive ratio advantage.

Cavernous Echo has the higher total, but it doesn't even have a 2:1 ratio. Plus, Echoing Acoustics was only added two days ago.

Cavernous Echo doesn't really have anything to do with this trope at all. It's going to collect a lot of misuse based on people thinking it's exactly what it sounds on the tin. This is a music trope. Not a trope about caves.
