Yeah,I can't really see a remake of the MSX games happening anymore.If Kojima retired Colonel Campbell's character due to his VA having died a few years ago,he certainly will do the same here.
And it was really a huge loss for the Japanese voice-acting in general.It was pretty much if they had lost somebody like Mel Blanc or Frank Welker.He was THAT important.

apparently both father and son were estranged and that was one of the reasons Kojima casted him as Big Boss and ended MGS 4 like that so they could reconciliate.
Plus,he had so many recurring roles and such a distinctive voice that replacing all these characters is going to be an ungrateful task:
