If REX can dash, as seen in Solid 4, then where are its wheels located in?

[up] Thanks I guess.

In regards to Ocelot disabling SOP, which stays that way thanks to FOXALIVE, then how do we have Maverick troops running around with F2000s?

I think REX has some kind of rocket propulsion inside its ankles, actually. Otacon is enough of an anime/giant mecha fanboy to have worked to find a way to make that work.

I sure said that!

[up] That can work. Thanks.

Given the fact we don't have a Metal Gear fanfiction thread, I'll ask this: I need help for a Metal Gear fanfic I'm planning to write, which is an Alternate Continuity sequel fic, with the explanation for why it's Alternate Continuity:

After the "Great Reveal [everything secret about events from the 1900s up until 2014 (the machinations of the Philosophers and the succeeding Patriots)] of January 1, 2015, chaos spread across the world, and with bombings that took the lives of the entire respective leaderships of the United Nations and the European Union. With these events, chaos spread and the solution to contain the chaos was to divide the world into supernational unions.

Now, here's where I need help: Do I combine the European Union and Commonwealth of Independent States or not? I already got these supernational unions: Free Nations Federation (North America, South America, Oceania, Philippines, Brunei, Japan, and South Korea; capital in Washington D.C.) and United Asian Alliance [North Korea, People's Republic of China, Republic of China/Taiwan, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia (sans Sabah), Thailand, Burma/Myanmar, and Indonesia; capital in Beijing].

In reality, you'd have a massive stock market crash, a ton of populist revolts against governments both violent and non-violent, tons of resignations on all levels of government, tons of politicians foolishly trying to fight said circumstances behind resignations, third world countries getting their hands on schematics and data regarding high-tech weapons and technologies, and a bunch of broken alliances/treaties/whatnot. The US, especially, would be screwed the most out of this since they were at the heart of the whole thing and designed the Patriot A.I.s, but so would Russia and China, what with them being original Philosopher nations and also contributing to the chaos in their own ways. Basically, the three would lose almost all of their international influence overnight and come under massive scrutiny in the future even when they try to so much lift a finger.

Not so much assassinations though, at least not in first world countries. They'd be back up on their feet much quicker even despite the internet/economic/government collapse. Any police forces are probably still going to try and uphold the law to prevent the rioting from getting out of hand, but we'd still probably see a few disgruntled states or political groups use the revelation of the Patriots as an excuse to form their own nations. Probably a couple of Jesuslands, a free Tibet, a resurgent Georgia and Chechnya, a TOTALLY screwed Israel whose neighbors will no doubt jump on the chance to conquer them, etc. And I'd figure the UN would actually benefit in such a situation once the initial leadership was cleared out, since you'd absolutely need their ability to function as a diplomatic and economic communication hub for those left out in the cold by the sudden shift in world power.

So, no, there probably wouldn't be too many alliances for a while, the distrust between absolutely everybody having their dirty laundry spilled all over the internet would see to any diplomatic attempts being ruined. Maybe nations with good historical relations would patch things up quickly enough (most likely in Europe) but everywhere else would be a mess. And sadly a lot of conspiracy whackos like David Icke and Alex Jones would end up being taken seriously and probably damaging the credibility of many once-legit academic institutions, all because nobody wants to believe in what the government had set up before.

Nah, just add it here on the forum. Gonna go to bed soon so I won't be responding for a while obviously.

EDIT: another idea might be to use the world-building forum. Though I think you'd be best off here, since this thread would obviously attract all the Metal Gear nerds whereas the world-building thread would be much more quiet.

[up] Thank you then.

So, I'll just go for Commonwealth of Independent States turning into a centralized government with no borders amongst member states, later revealed it has been taken over by monarchists, with their leader, Russian President Viktor Akulov proclaiming himself "Tsar," thus turning the CIS into the Autocratic Eurasian Empire. After acquiring the leaderless European Union post-Brussels bombing, the AEE begin to conquer various Asian countries, with Turkey, Iran, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Mongolia with either under-the-table deals or by military force. The latter was mostly achieved through their new invention of war, the Boyevaya Uoker (Combat Walker, then called "Assault Gear" by the Free Nations Federation), which managed to defeat various knockoffs of Metal Gear REX made the countries that chose to be conquered. The Free Nations Federation and the United Asian Alliance were formed in response to the AEE's expansionism. In secret, a secret cabal group control the AEE from the shadows, and are the ones responsible fro revealing every misdeed committed by the Philosophers and the Patriots. Not saying the goals of this group yet. To combat this group after finding out through a traitor amongst said group's ranks, Neo-FOXHOUND is formed to combat this mysterious group while operating as Private Military Contractors as a "dayjob."

Was Kojima expecting the backlash with MGS 2 and Raiden to be that bad? Did Kojima anticipate the death threats he got? Or is it all just baseless rumors?

I don't think any game developer expects death threats, but Kojima is a master troll, so he probably suspected that fan reaction would be a little edgy.

It's not baseless; you can find plenty of old discussions about MGS 2 disparaging the game in its entirety - there was considerable backlash. As for death threats, I never saw physical copies of these or any website claiming evidence or screen shots, but crazier things have happened.

I thought he only got death threats when he said he wasn't going to direct MGS 4. I never heard of any deaths threats because of the Raiden twist.

Hmmm is right at this point but a part of me wonders if he expected MGS 2 to be as reviled as it was so that he could up its themes into the public consciousness? If MGS 2 was a just a game where Snake went to Iraq to beat up Liquid, I highly doubt it would had been as popular as it was.

I sorta wish Ghost Babel was on the 3DS Virtual Console.

I expected them to release it when Snake Eater 3D came out. Strike while the iron is hot. Oh well.

I mean.

...I don't think there's an actual reason they can't release the MSX 2 games on the Virtual Console internationally. I mean, Lost Levels got a virtual console release in the west, and it sure wasn't actually on the NES. It was on the Famicom.

And it's not like Snake's Revenge was actually that bad.

I'm pretty sure digital distribution costs a lot less anyway. So it's not like it wouldn't be profitable at all.

I don't understand why companies don't re-release things.

I wouldn't mind them releasing a version of that Zone of the Enders Gameboy game either.

But overall they probably don't think the licensing and effort porting it is worth the potential sales.

[up][up] Given how she sounded as younger Aika Sumeragi and Homura Akemi, think Cristina Valenzuela should be EVA if Solid 3 gets animated and dubbed.

Speaking of EVA, relating to my questions in the A bunch of questions about Biology/Ecology/Evolution and stuff thread, how is she not irradiated too given the fact in Solid 3's ending, she slept with Jack/Naked Snake, who survived the Castle Bravo test in Bikini Atoll, coming back sterilized.

It's been a few years since I've studied biology, but I'm pretty sure radiation isn't a sexually transmitted disease.

Indeed, especialy since in order for radiation sickness or radioactively-induced sterility to be passed on, the "target" has to ingest or otherwise come into sufficient physical contact with enough of the subject's bodily fluids for such an effect to happen. With that and the date of the Castle Bravo test (1954, i.e. 10 years before MGS3; enough time for much of the residual radioactivity to have decayed considerably) taken into consideration, I think that a single sexual encounter has a rather low probability of causing sterility in EVA.
