There's an obvious alternative.

But bold implies emphasis doesn't it?

Usually, I use italics to emphasize something. Bold can be used either way.

Maybe <this>? Or !This!?

"Or maybe like this!" Chihuahua0 said, his voice so loud that it cause the overhead light to swing.

[up] I usually do this when my characters are thinking. But I use this if my character is spooky...

BUT AS HARRY POTTER HAD SHOWN US, SOMETIMES CAPS WORK TOO, IF DONE RIGHT!

BUT TOO MANY EXCLAMATION POINTS MAKE THINGS LOOK JUST AS BAD!!!!

YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN?!?!

Also, this is a graphic novel!!! No narration.

Dealan: I use both. It depends on what tone I want.

Wait a minute, you're writing a comic. Isn't bold the default type of shouting in comics? Especially in those that use only capital letters.

Graphic novel...

I only write straight prose, but if I want a character to yell, I use italics. It helps if you want to make their voice seem like it is rising or falling, and certain words have emphasis!

I'm not sure if that will work for you, though.

Well, comics USUALLY have a CAP FONT as their default, so they can't use all caps regardless.

I don't know if I will have a font like that or not, just that having someone yell in call caps makes things look...cheesy.

Do you have some of the pages drawn out, or designed? It might not like as bad when it is in the panels.

And I agree, it does look cheesy, but not in graphic novels, I think. I hate when I see it in a novel or short story.

It's a graphic novel? Why didn't you say so earlier?

ISN'T JAGGED SPEECH BUBBLES THE WAY TO GO?

Well, you've read a bit of my graphic novel script.

And Nicky is the character who yells a lot

If they're really loud (like, multiple exclamation points loud, bold text isn't going to cut it loud), maybe you could also enlarge the font?

[up][up] Yes, he does.

Are you going to avoid typing in caps when you put up the next pages? You kind of don't need them, since you often have Nicky (Yelling) before his line.

Well, he's not always "yelling," that's just it. Sometimes he's just loudly exclaiming things, or loudly saying things.

Bobby G: I could do that. Hmmmm.

How about jagged speech bubbles? You know, like how thought bubbles are different from normal speech bubbles?

I don't think it would work well on it's own.

"I don't like you" in jagged speech bubbles will still seem a bit restrained.

Well, it seems restrained because the words are restrained. "I HATE YOU!" looks fine.

Just look at the avatar [up]. <jb>Jagged bubble</jb>, bold text, ALL CAPS!

That's how it's done.

Yes, although GG is in allcaps, it usually isn't in bold jagged bubbles.

(Full size image, because my avatar probably won't hang around forever.)

I guess zigged speech bubbles and both font styles are what I'll do.
