Hideo Kojima game cancelled

This kind of reminds me how Keiji Inafune mentioned that Capcom always rejected any games proposed to them that weren't sequels, and how he had to resort to an Xanatos Gambit to get Lost Planet and Dead Rising even made. Perhaps the same thing could be happening at Konami?

I hope not.

In Capcom's defense, Lost Planet sucked.
It doesn't forgive them for making only sequels, but it still sucked.

Dead Rising kinda makes up for Lost Planet's suckiness though...wish they didn't halfquarter-ass the Wii version though...

Absolutely. Those two are night and day. Where Lost Planet failed, Dead Rising picked up a television and smashed it over a zombie's head...
Which is a good thing.
The sequel was pretty good too...

Yeah he should.

He should at least be able to make one thing he wants to do; after MGS he deserves a shot at something. At the very least his name will sell it unless it turns out to be atrocious.

Because Zone Of The Enders and Boktai were so successful.

Not Hideo Kojima's name sells games. Metal Gear's does.

They weren't AAA titles but they didn't exactly tank, right?

He should have exactly as much sway as he needed to make Metal Gear Solid 3.

@Nyarly, but Zone Of The Enders is now a Cult Classic, is it not? Even got tie-in games for the GBA, of all the unlikely places. And Boktai having had two sequels is also a cause for not considering it "tanking", methinks.

On-topic: I feel for him. Dude deserves a break from making the same things over and over, considering he wanted to end the franchise around MGS 2-ish. And everyone (himself included) deserves a frakking ending to Snatcher's Sequel Hook!

Sure, he wanted to end the series he says. He wouldn't be the first to fail to kill a Franchise Zombie, but he hasn't put much effort toward doing so. "Protection from editors", Metal Gear Solid 2 was a rehash of Metal Gear Solid one with a stupider story and less impressive player character. That should be all the evidence of not deserving protection from editors.

I think the story is that he tried to make MGS 2 as mind-fuck bad as possible to get people to NOT want another sequel. He failed. Hard.

Yeah, I feel that Kojima should be able to make whatever the fuck he wants ant least once. He's proven himself to be able to succeed even when he tries to fail. That takes talent.

Think he is, if he really had wanted to end the series with MGS 2; he would have tied up the plot instead of opening a dozen new ones.
