I'm just waiting for the chance of Luong to be like "Hey old man, nice job falling to good ol' me. Imma actually a spy of that criminal dude on you, sucka."

I hate to bring up a discarded topic, but the law being talked about on the last page is the legalization of gambling (in particular, slot machines, which Konami has a stake in - their US branch has offices in Las Vegas) in Japan, which is speculated will weaken the pachislot business there. That's why SNK is getting out of pachislot and conversely, why Konami is investing more into gambling (not just pachislot). Anybody expecting Konami falls flat on their face in their new endevaor without knowing the full context of why SNK is pulling out will be sorely disappointed.
Anyway, on topic - Famitsu has a full set of the character portraits for XIV minus Antonov and the final boss, so I'm working on getting those into the character pages right now. Famitsu's image watermark is going to make putting in some of them really tough, though.

I hate to bring this up, but does anyone still seriously think this looks like a PS 2 game? Now to be perfectly clear, I do not think it looks like one, at all. But I know that there are still a number of people elsewhere who do, and for the life of me, I just can't figure out why. To start with, this is what an actual PS 2 KOF game looks like:
And this◊ is how XIV actually looks. It's practically night and day compared with MI 2, and while XIV may not exactly be a Van-gogh, it's still a far sight better than a PS 2 game. The best I can gather is that most people haven't actually played a PS 2 game in ages, and so they think that anything that isn't AAA level graphics in this day and age must look like a PS 2 game. Nevermind that SNK doesn't a huge budget and that it's developers don't have much experience with 3D, and that the graphics are actually somewhat impressive considering all that.
Granted, the game didn't actually look that great when it was first showed, and it's possible that that's still left a long-standing stigma on the game, but even some people who watched the latest stream say it still looks like sh*t. And now part of me's worried that the game won't sell that well or at least gain a larger audience just because it's graphics aren't state of the art. I still don't think the game looks that bad, but then again, maybe I'm just not enough of a graphics wore to really care.
It certainly isn't fair to say XIV looks like a PS 2 game, even some of the best-looking titles on PS 2 like Shadow of the Colossus aren't really comparable to games today in terms of graphics . That said however, XIV's graphic fidelity definitely isn't on par for a next-gen title. Far as I can tell the lighting and effects aren't anything to write home about, and character models all look pretty hazy with their messy hair and rough skin, it looks more like a mid-late era PS 3 game.
I don't pay any mind to stream comments, they complain about everything. Show the wrong characters and they'll complain about Street Fighter too, heh. But I bet if XIV were to somehow take off, those same people would flock to this PS 2 game like the sheep they are. It's what they do.
Videos and streams don't do any game justice. Everything I've heard from people who've seen it in person, game looks fine. Not great, but fine.
Complaining for the sake of complaining is the trend that needs to be killed off with extreme prejudice. Thing is, they like to mask their complaining issue with 'concern of the game'. People needs to learn some gratitude and not being greedy asses.
When it comes to the 2D fighter genre, I don't see why looking like a PS 2 game is an insult. Capcom vs SNK 2 was on PS 2 and that game was gorgeous. I wish more 2D fighters had visuals like that.
KOF 14 seems to be trying to look as much like the series' old sprite games as it can without actually being a sprite game, so in that regard I guess it does look like a PS 2 game. It's also not a bad thing.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. They aren't making it look like Guilty Gear Xrd at any rate, though... but it looks decent enough, I can live with the graphics. I'm not hard to please and graphics aren't all that anyway.
Would I rather it look like The Order: 1886 and play like ass, though? Hardly.

My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!I'll take a graphical hit when the game has more than thrice the number of characters other fighters launching this year have. I still want to know how they managed without reusing assets from something else.
Reusing assets is exactly what they did. KOF XIII's sprites were rotoscoped off of 3D models, complete with their own keyframes. All SNK had to do was apply the keyframes to the new XIV models while adding in an extra move here and there, and they already had roughly half the cast.
Here's another possible DLC leak. No telling if it's real or not, but if it is, HYPE!
And here's even more HYPE! To promote the upcoming release of KOF XIV, SNK's giving a big 50% discount for a lot of their old titles and collections on PSN, and you can get most of them for just $5.00 or so. The catch is that you have to have a Japanese PSN account to get them, and unless you earn yen for a living, you also have to buy Japanese PSN cards too. That said, it's not really that hard. Here's a handy link from Kotaku on how to make a Japanese PSN account if you're interested, and you can also get digital Japanese PSN cards from Play Asia. (They're even having a discount themselves!) This only lasts until September though, so if you want to play a bunch of classic titles on your PS 3, now's your chance. I got KOFXI and Samurai Shodown VI myself.

Too bad Europe still hasn't gotten PS 2 Classics of XI and 98UM.
Well, America hasn't gotten them either. The Japanese PSN is the only way to get them, unfortunately.
Even if we got the SNK sale the only SNK game worth getting right now for Europe and US is KOF 96 and I guess Metal Slug 3.
Why can't we have 2K2UM? We get import Classics, that game can't be out of the question.
There's always Steam.

Which I did. Well I got the deal where I got '98 UM, 2002 UM and XIII.
You gotta start somewhere.Well yea but Steam 98UM and 2K2UM dion't have Colour Edit. That shit is awesome
Aha! Finally an opportunity to use that JP PSN account I setup last month for the purpose of buying DLC for DOA Xtreme 3, before realising that it's actually the Chinese version of the game that has English subtitles. And living in the UK means an automatic massive discount on anything traded in dollars, so I get to buy those overpriced PSN cards on the cheap too. Knew there'd be an opportunity to use it if I left it.
Regarding XIV's graphics, I've been saying since the first trailer I saw that the graphics looked iffy. It's definitely no PS 2 game, but the PS 3 could do way better graphics, and XIV is on PS 4. It should look better. I'll still buy it anyway because fucking ginormous roster and 3D KOF that isn't a trainwreck, but I do wish it looked like Xrd.

Can't think of anything witty, so have this instead...Hey, I like Maximum Impact! Well, the second one, at least.
Anyway, while we're waiting for KOFXIV to be released, why don't we take a gander at KOF's past? I found these videos on You Tube.

Has Mai's fire pillar been in KOF before? She has it in most of Fatal Furies from around Real Bout up but I don't recall seeing it KOF.
It was in 03, not sure if any other entries have it though.
Love it!
Just go for it!
