Well, Calamity at least has very good reviews:

Seems kinda like the old Wing MGs in terms of construction? Simple and sturdy. Some of the skirt armor is a bit finicky. Though then again the only kit I've been completely unable to stand is the old MG Victory Gundam Ver Ka line, which are just nightmares.

This month's p-bandai us kit per-orders will be going up in about 6.5 hours at 9 PM EDT, including:

  • MG 1/100 GUNDAM ASTRAY RED FRAME, MG 1/100 JESTA CANNON, RE 1/100 REBAWOO, MG 1/100 IMPULSE GUNDAM BLANCHE, MG 1/100 GUNDAM TR-1 [HAZEL CUSTOM], MG 1/100 ENHANCED ZZ GUNDAM Ver.Ka, MG 1/100 ENHANCED EXPANSION PARTS for ZZ GUNDAM Ver.Ka, MG 1/100 TESTAMENT GUNDAM, MG 1/100 BLAZE ZAKU PHANTOM / BLAZE ZAKU WARRIOR, MG 1/100 MISSION PACK H-TYPE for GUNDAM F90
  • RG 1/144 CROSSBONE GUNDAM X2, RG 1/144 TALLGEESE III, HG 1/144 LOAD ASTRAY Ω, RG 1/144 RX-93ff ν GUNDAM, BB SENSHI RX-93ff ν GUNDAM, ENTRY GRADE 1/144 RX-93ff ν GUNDAM, HG 1/144 BOOSTER BED FOR ν GUNDAM

Glad to see Impulse Blanche getting a reissue, wanted that kit after grabbing the Astray Noir. Think I'll probably pick up that Fukuoka Nu Gundam with the Long Range Fin Funnel too.

Load Astray went very quick the last couple times so would suggest refreshing the pre-order page and putting the thing in your cart at 9 pm on the dot if you want one.

Damn, I want to get another Blaze Zaku. Both the BFG and the energy axe look really good on it, so I'd like to be able to display both.

The Goonhammer site has been doing Gunpla articles recently and I enjoy modelling. Once I'm working again I think I'll pick something Gundam-related. Like the Tallgeese.

Yeah, the Tallgeese RG is a good kit. Really good beginner for RG.

What's the minimum age for the easier kits? I'm thinking of getting a model for my seven year old niece whenever I get a master/real grade for myself.

It'd be hard to recommend any kit to a seven-year-old since nearly everything requires the use of a clipper and a very sharp x-acto knife. So unless you're absolutely sure your isn't going to accidentally stab themselves or slice a fingertip off with those things the only kits I can recommend are the Entry Grades.

EDIT: Minor correction: So the primary reason to need a knife is to clean up the nubs from the runners. Otherwise you could get away with only using a clipper, and depending on how dexterous your kid's fingers are, you could get them a non-MG 1/100 or an HG.

Ok, never paid any attention to the Gunpla models, so I had no idea what age group they could be for.

Entry Grade would be fine for a seven year old, I would imagine. High Grade could even work with a level of parental supervision and cooperation.

Yeah, Entry Grade and SDCS (Super Deformed Cross Silhouette) kits have runners where you can just pop the parts off with your hands and get nice looking results. As long as you're old enough to play with legos you can probably do these too. They're often pretty simple to put together as well:

Otherwise you will be using a sharp plastic cutter at the very least so probably a bit older or have full supervision.

I'm browsing a few kits online. Which ver. Ka kits do you guys recommend? What about PG kits?

Oooohhh, thanks for that video. Nice seeing what it looks like in the box, impressed with the organization. Been building a lot of 40k models with the tiny vague instructions and torsos and limbs scattered everywhere. I'll do some more research into it, she barely knows Gundam other than me talking about it and the real life model. She knows it's something I like, therefore she likes it.

@ChicoTheParakeet

  • Ver.ka wise I personally like the Sazabi, FAZZ/ZZ line, Nu, Hi-Nu, Sinanju Stein, and Wing Zero. Only one I would NOT recommend at all are the Victory / V-Dash / V2 ver.Ka line. They are a nightmare in terms of stable construction, Katoki just hadn't figured out the transformation gimmick quite right yet. Unicorn RGs tend to be a bit more stable than the MG Ver.ka versions too just cause of weight so if you like those designs maybe consider the RGs instead. Sazabi, Nu, Hi-Nu, and Crossbone X-1 also have really great RGs that you may want over the MG Ver.ka versions for space, price, and/or different detailing / construction reasons, though both are pretty nice. Have no real thoughts on the rest.

  • Not super into Perfect Grades myself but the PG Unleashed RX-78-2 Gundam is a really beautiful kit that's engineered towards a really enjoyable building process as you set up multiple layers, so if I'd suggest any, its that one.

New Ver Ka is coming up for the anniversary. Hope it's not a remake of the Classic Gundam.

It'd be really cool if the Zeta got the Ver Ka treatment somewhere down the line.

This month's p-bandai us kit per-orders will be going up in about 12.5 hours at 9 PM EDT, including:

  • MG 1/100 ZETA GUNDAM III B TYPE GRAY ZETA, MG 1/100 TENNETH A. JUNG'S GM SNIPER CUSTOM, MG 1/100 POLYPODBALL
  • HG 1/144 GUNDAM GEMINASS 01, HG 1/144 ASSAULT BOOSTER & HIGH MOBILITY UNIT for GUNDAM GEMINASS 01, HG 1/144 GUNDAM L.O.BOOSTER, HG 1/144 GUNDAM AESCULAPIUS, HG 1/144 QUATTRO BAJEENA'S RICK DIAS, HG 1/144 RX-78-2 GUNDAM [PR ambassador of the Japan Pavilion, Expo 2020 Dubai], HG ALTEISEN NACHT, HG 1/144 RED RIDER, HG 1/144 RED GIANT 03rd MS TEAM SET
  • RG 1/144 RX-93ff ν GUNDAM, BB SENSHI RX-93ff ν GUNDAM

Super excited for the LO Booster, this HGAC revision looks really nice.

edit: Aaah, the Witch from Mercury Gundam's main gimmick is that it has bits, that's why the Aerial had so many hard points. Think I'll get an Aerial after all, balance looks much nicer with the bits not in shield mode. Maybe a Gundam Pharact too, it seems very Armored Core.

My Tallgeese is just about done, just need to apply roughly a hundred stickers.

And now the brain's like "Hmm, what next? The RX-78-2? Zeta? A Zaku? Something Char flies?"

What kind of series do you like?

Other than that, some good HG's are:

  • The Zaku II from Origin (Char's or the Regular). It's a fun and very posable figure. Lot's of accessories.
  • Revive Qubeley. Really cool out there design, very nice colors.
  • Barzam. Another out there design, it's a very stable build and I like that the eye is a clear piece rather than a sticker.
  • Dagger L. Never seen Seed, but this is a great kit, no stickers at all, just excellent color separation. Also fun to pose, very basic.

I have the HG Char's Zaku II (origin). It was a really good build. Tons of weapon options, too. Lots of stickers, though, if you want to go for the full look.

Prototype Alex

Hope this means we'll get more 0080 Damashii's. The GM Command Colony would be an easy reuse of the GM Command Space.
