Also, when He asked Peter who he thought He was, Peter said that He was the Son of God and Jesus didn't correct him but congratulated him for getting it right.

The "It is as you say" bit? Or was that somewhere else? They all kind of merge together for me. :/

[up][up]Son of God is a completely different thing from God (not to mention this particular phrasing is particularly easy to interpret as 'we are all His children').

Anyway, I didn't wanted to start a off-topic theological discussion. Lets move on.

[up] I know you were just stating a fact and not being a critic, I was just making sure if you knew the reason behind it. By the way, you're right about Jesus. He never did say he was God himself, only his son.

However, as Silver2195 mentioned, Jesus did claim to be God, though not in so many words.

In particular is John 8:58, "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am! "

The emphasized part is a direct reference to Exodus 3:14, with Moses and the Burning Bush, where Moses asks God what his name is, and God replies "I AM WHO I AM," and that it is "I AM" who has sent Moses to free the Israelites. It's also the source of YHWH, or Yahweh, the name of God, and the Hebrew for "He is."

Effectively, Jesus did claim to be God, and it's only at this point, after a long debate with the Pharisees where Jesus has made several controversial statements, that the Pharisees try to stone him to death.

Now that we've cleared that up some finer points of Christian theology, let's get back on topic.

[up] I suppose it would be my fault for continuing a debate where it could have died, but oh well. Anyway, both of those verses do NOT prove that Jesus is God, or that he claimed to be so. Yes, Jesus did exist before Abraham, but only as an angel, not as God himself. Also, your entire paragraph about Exodus 3:14 is completely wrong. The translation for Yahweh is not "He Is" but "He Who Causes To Become". Similarly, "I AM WHAT I AM" is a mistranslation, and should actually read "I SHALL BECOME WHAT I SHALL BECOME" or "I SHALL PROVE TO BE WHAT I SHALL PROVE TO BE". So no, there is no direct reference between the two scriptures. And I suppose before it's used in rebuttal, I should state that ending of John 1:1 is also often mistranslated.

Anyway, now that we've cleared that up some finer points of Christian theology, let's get back on topic.

Hah, now THIS is a page that addresses my complaint best.

I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.
