queers, a short bitter poem by me

i was going to do a blog post this month about my queer identity but i lost the will to finish writing that, so here's this for a pride month post

The intersection between people who would use the word 'trap' (well, in that context) and who would actually consider the consequences of saying something offensive is tiny.

So I was so close to going to the pride parade but then something came up. Maybe next year...

X4 Yeah that was not fun, it’s worth noting though that nothing actually kicked off at the Con itself after the dipshit got kicked out, it came up in a discord some of us were using and that was it, everyone was far to busy enjoying the Con. Also the people actully there supported the desicion, if nothing else nobody wanted Con time wasted on idiots live meming.

The what incident?

Someone got thrown out of a panel at a convention for throwing out the "Are Traps Gay?" meme.

Not the panel, they got throw out of the convention. Thing is the panel was the opening show of a two day convention basicly just about one YouTubers and his YouTubers friends.

The staff running the convention decided to kick the person out, but needed to ID them, so for multiple reasons (him having the most followers, him being well placed to survive the inevitable internet backlash, him being used to said harassment) they had/asked (it’s unclear whose idea it was) Total Biscuit (one of the people appearing at the convention) ask on twitter for anyone who could ID the person to point them out to the staff.

Twitter then lost its shit (as it does) and TB (as was his way) told twitter to get fucked, donated to the value of the guy’s ticket to a transgender rights charity and called the offender an asshole (though no personal details were ever released).

It was a big thing for some internet people but at the convention itself (where I was) it was nothing, half of us didn’t notice until checking online, also the acoustics in the room were such that many people didn’t realise what was being said (I thought it was “are tramps gay” and wondered what the fuck homeless people’s sexuality had to do with anything)

The internet hasn’t forgotten, TB probably didn’t help calm things down by (correctly) calling everyone online who got upset about it a shitbag bigot who should go get fucked. Also at own point there was some harassment going on aimed at a transgender convention attended (not a panelist or anything) who has their own public profile, even though she was obviously not involved in the discussion about what to do.

I just remember my stance being "'it's just a meme' doesn't make it magically not offensive" and "you don't get to decide what I do and do not get offended by".

I just remember it being amusing to see so many twitter shitbags who insisted that TB was some kind of Internet Hitler be shown that while TB had his flaws he was actully a deeply progressive man.

Not that any fo them listened, if they did they’d have learnt that after he told every Trump voter who watched his content to stop and that they’re wern’t welcome.

I think the issue with TB was less he was a bad person and more that he stayed wilfully blind to the fact that the hashtag that shall not be discussed was being used as an excuse for proto-alt-right shits to harass people.

And in this case the whole thing was used to paint him as anti-Free Speech.

I don't know what happened but it seems quite bad

X3 He was never blind to the hashtag being used to harass people, he just didn’t see it as a movement due to it being a hashtag that anyone could use instead of an actual organisation with members and stuff. That and after years of death threats and harassment I think he’d gotten kinda numb to the entire thing, it was just so normal to him.

Also being someone who actully did talk about the misdeeds of games journalists he didn’t want to stop focusing on that because a bunch of assholes had turned up and started trying to use what he genuinely did as a cover story for their harassment.

OK so he performed apologia for harassment and legitimized a harassment campaign.

Nope not at all, the best analogy I can think of is CNN, a person who criticises CNN for its support of Trump during the primaries and it’s constant “both sides are bad” rhetoric isn’t legitimising Trump’s “fake news” bullshit.

I don’t know where you pulled the apologia angle from, you seem to have just made that up for some reason. Saying any shitbag can use a hashtag doesn’t count as apolagiam it’s a very open acknowledgment that shitbags are using the hashtag to do terrible things.

Quite honestly most American mainstream media is garbage. Particularly Twitter

Twitter is bad not because it’s American but because it part of the uncivilised internet, actions don’t have real consequences there, unlike say here. That basically encourages bad behaviour.

Gamergate was a harassment campaign from before the hashtag was coined. It was organized in 4chan and 8chan associated IRC channels to make Zoe Quinn's life hell as well as to paint feminists and "SJWs" in gaming as invaders under the guise of "ethical journalism".

By maintaining a "neutral" stance TB and other prominent figures gave an air of legitimacy to the thinly veiled harassment campaign, and TB himself was complicit in sending dogpile mobs.

Bi Tasmanian 23-year-old Aspie who thought she was straight for a long time but then discovered Korean Pop Music and was given feelings by Amber, followed by the realisation of bisexuality mid last year-ish thanks to one LE and her hot as hell solo Velvet from their Eclipse album. I love video games, animals, food, cooking, music and my bff of 11 years and either hate or am numb to the rest of the world at large. Looking for a place of my own but probably am not going to get that unless I focus on developing a brain to mouth filter, getting my driver's license and a job, and just generally improving myself first.
