Archer

I'm still watching it because it's still funny and entertaining. I just would prefer a return to the main setting.

One thing I really liked about last season was the twist of Cyril's Danger Island counterpart being the arc's unambiguous villain, rather than everybody just settling into roles similar to their real-world counterparts like in Archer Noir. You can get away with major character alterations like that when you're doing what-if scenarios, which Archer Noir didn't really take much advantage of.

It also makes perfect sense, because it's Archer's dream and he hates Cyril.

Honestly, I know Archer's thing with Cyril is supposed to be petty, and it's not like Cyril's the greatest guy anyway, but I kind of thing they've run the relationship into the ground.

At least try and stuff to the dynamic to make it less repetitive.

As far as I can tell, this season will be eight episodes long. If anyone has heard something different, feel free to correct me.

Does anyone else feel weird that Dreamland!Pam is always a male?

...Since when?

Noire Pam was gender-ambiguous, but Danger Island and Space Pam are both female. Just gigantic and burly.

Oh, is Space-Pam female? Huh. Admittedly I haven't been able to watch the first episode yet, so I can only go off the commercial where she says she has whatever her species' equivalent of a boner is.

I think this season is them going one step too far with the coma crap and I’d rather they just woke up and finished the actual plots.

It was just weird, as opposed to funny.

Oh shit that Arrested Development reference with Ray made me bust out laughing.

This one was a really good episode. One-liner game was on point, and it was nice to see Brett die again. For some reason, the exchange that made me laugh the most was:

Sterling: Why wasn't this the first thing you told us?!
Mallory: Because I said two other things before it?

It's a small exchange but it's just such a classic petty Mallory thing to say.

Next week is the space nautilus episode. I wonder if they'll call back to Drastic Voyage at all.

If Malory is Archer's biological mother, why is she sometimes an energy being?

Good question.

Maybe she concieved and birthed him while in human form, and Archer only inherited normal human genes. Maybe she's a human with some kind of augmentation that lets her become an energy being, rather than the other way around. Or maybe she's just his adoptive mother in this reality.

Caught up on last week's episode (which I missed), in preparation for tomorrow's. Mr. Deadly was pretty neat. Who voiced him?

Also, Space Archer's fear of alligators being replaced with a fear of black holes is great.

Mr Deadly was voiced by Matt Berry

It's a little weird to hear this guy's voice coming out of Mister Deadly.

It's a very distinct voice.

So there's three episodes left. So far... I've enjoyed this season. Admittedly I grow tired of the removed setting after three consecutive seasons of it, but in a vacuum removed from that context, this one has so far been better than both the Noir and Danger Island seasons.

Feels much more Archer-y, perhaps because of the return to an episodic format instead of a season-long singular plot.

I like that they're bringing back Cheryl's ambiguous name gag that didn't survive the first season.

Gotta agree with Pam and Archer, I like this hypercompetent-but-even-more-unstable version of Cheryl.

They’re supposed to have a panel for Archer at SDCC. Maybe we can find out exactly what the show’s future is there.

Season 11 has been ordered, and the show goes back to the "real world".
