Is this any good?

With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars.

They are doing some word-of-mouth screenings (in American and Canadian markets) on the 25th to see how wide the American release will be (which looks to be late summer/early fall). Screen Gems is distributing it in North America.

Well, it's not as good as Predator but it is in that class. Hmm, in fact since it's set in an urban environment then it's better compared to Predator2...well I actually rather liked Predator2 but I think most people would find this better.

Why am I comparing it to Predator? Well because both films deal with a team of [Masculine Stereotype #X] being hunted down by an alien to the deconstruction (lit crit wise, not Playing with a Trope wise) of the stereotype that they inhabit.

I saw this today and thought it was great. Much, much better than the premise and trailer suggested.

Not sure what Americans will make of it tbh. Will be interesting to find out.

Saw it tonight. Pretty good. I thought the action was pretty good, and it had some pretty good scares. The funny bits were good but I thought there could've been more. I also dug the simple design of the aliens, especially considering it was what they achieved despite a low budget.

The American release is July 29th. Reportedly, it will only be a limited release in six markets (however, Sony is planning to go wider if word-of-mouth and opening weekend numbers are good).

Hopefully going to catch a screening somewhere near me. I've heard some really good things about the film, so I'm pretty excited.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Absolutely fantastic. Well-written, well-shot, hilarious, and terrifying on what looks like a budget of fifty bucks. Why can't America make films like this?

Yes, of course, you may absolutely bring ze...brewskis!

Sony doesn't even seem to know what they're doing with this movie. An expansion for Friday turned out to only be for more theatres in markets that are already playing the movie (which was also the expansion last week). A large number of markets have no set date for the movie and there's no marketing for the film (there was a trailer prepared two weeks before opening and a poster, but that's it).

This movie is getting screwed worse than IFC and Super.

It looks like that no theatre near me will be getting the movie. Sony wasn't happy with the test screening scores in St. Louis and Kansas City (along with Boston, which got the movie) and as a result, seem to be keeping the movie away from there. But then again, that doesn't explain why 12 markets where it tested well haven't gotten the movie.

Also, I learned that it was tested in St. Louis to the wrong audience (Sony expected teenagers and got mostly senior citizens). Which reminds me of when The Weinstein Company tested Killshot (based on an Elmore Leonard novel) to people who liked Crash and not to fans of Out of Sight and Jackie Brown. Not surprisingly, it tested badly and the whole movie was reshot. The final version (released three years after the original cut was supposed to be released) was a boring mess that didn't even resemble what was supposed to be released.
