Unclear: Absurdly Youthful Mother

I really think that the current image is unclear. How do we know that this is a mother? All I see is somebdy in a maids outfit with two faceless people in the background. In my humble opinion, an anime picture is a bad idea, because of the whole Only Six Faces thing that is so prevalent in that medium. A live action one would be best (unless there's a drawn one that clearly depicts the trope). Unfortunately, I can't think of anything to replace it. Suggestions?

Hmm...I think the objection to it being anime is rather beside the point, but we could find an example of her next to her daughter.

Or maybe a good example of Meme and Erio for Denpa Onna, this isn't a good one, but they definitely have a family resemblance

Also, "She doesn't look like a mother" is the entire point, so its not an objection.

[up] No, the trope can look like a mother just fine. You just need motherly mannerisms. Not a random shot of a character with the Informed Attribute that she's a mother like those past couple images.

No, the point is that if I give an image and someone says "Oh, they look like they're sisters", then thats the point of the trope

The current example is meh, the image I posted is the only Denpa Onna image I have on hand, and was not put forth as an actual suggestion.

I'd still prefer something like Edmania's that shows some sort of relationship between a woman and her children. At least in that image she's being motherly.

I don't really like how Erio's mom has such a different hair color though (and doesn't have the glow and sparkles which come out of nowhere.)

There were some good examples in episode 5, I'm just sorta not at home and can't screencap them at the moment.

What about something of Konata and Kanata?

EDIT: I didn't realize that Edmania's suggestion was of them. I was thinking on something other than fanart(although that is almost all there is about them) like this or this.

Kanata's deadness makes her iffy for this trope

Edmania's pic is alright.

For what it's worth, the current one does look like stereotypically motherly, if only for how she's wearing an apron and carrying a soup spoon. (On a sidenote, she looks like Mikuru... is that intentional, and if so, on which show's part?)

But yeah, I suppose something more explicit that she's a mother would be an improvement.

I personally have no objection, only because I like that show. (shrugs)

[up][up] I always wondered about it myself and it's really hard to tell because CLANNAD, the original visual novel, came out just a year after first Haruhi novel. Since I have no expertise in visual novel industry, I have no idea if that's enough time to make changes and all...

Since I don't particularly feel like going through 49 episodes of Clannad to check, are there any good shots of Akio, Sanae and Nagisa together? Having all three of them may get across the "family" aspect a bit better.

Would be nice if this (NSFW adds) image existed as a straight on picture, not an image of a framed picture, because it has not one, but two absurdly youthful mothers! It seems to run in the family.

[up][up][up] Did you mean to post that one pic twice? Also, the third doesn't portray "mother" in any way, although it's a cute pic.

This trope is about mothers having their children at a young age, not about mothers looking young.

I belive that anime is not that good to show this trope. We had already several discussion about the fact that you often can't tell the age of an anmime character and the faces often are the same for women between the age of fourteen and fourty.

When you subtract the age (or apparent age) of a child from that of their parent, Fridge Logic results.

Typically done to justify a Hot Mom, but can sometimes lead to Unfortunate Implications if this means the mother was ridiculously young when she gave birth. Sometimes she only appears this way because of the art style.

The Clannad picture would still work even that way. I'm pretty sure neither mother in the picture was over 19 when they gave birth.
