I'm gonna agree-Xenosaga is boss. The UMN is !@#$ing convenient as !@#$.
Granted I've only read "Star healer" but the Sector General verse doesn't seem to be too bad.
There are so many, it's very hard to pick just one.
For easy living:
- Isaac Asimov's Robots 'verse (which later was retconned as the prehistory of the Foundation 'verse).
- Orion's Arm, which has The Culture - like engineering.
For adventure:
- Star Trek: Titan (Post - NG AU).
- The Chronicles of Man which has a similar technological feel to Alien, but humanoid vs humanoid instead of bugs, and bigger ships.

Robots is horrible for a non-Spacer.
Except for 4/1/2011. That day lingers in my memory like...metaphor here...I should go.I found the DC chapter to be pretty lame, I'd rather be a Paladin in the California chapter.
Living in my nice little bunker... Pre and during the original Fallout though, when they still traded with humans and they didn't have a whole lot of competition kicking around yet. As was described in New Vegas, it was really easy when they first came out of the bunkers and started interacting with people. Mosey up with power armor and a minigun and folks will give you whatever you want, at least until powerful groups like the NCR started popping up that can muster a genuine resistance if they try to. At the beginning of all the struggle though? The Bo S were king. They just didn't make enough power plays to ensure it stayed that way, something I'd correct.

Patience - from small timer to de facto ruler of a moon.
The crew of Serenity and all those like them - you can't take the sky from them.
In between the hand-to-mouth and the oppression lies a huge spectrum of lifestyles.
Frankly, I don't see it as being any more crapsack than here and now.

Really? No one wants to live in Star Trek? Replicators and holodecks put the steak-and-blowjob machine to shame.

Shit, I'd be set, go join the military in the core worlds and shoot me some browncoats!
It's at least more likely for me to do than actually join the browncoats, my ideals fit more with them, but I think it was pretty obvious from the beginning who had the upper hand. I'd probably get out after the war and go ply my trade as a merc or something, with a bit more professionalism and class than Jayne.

First post excluded Trek as an option.
Life on the inner Alliance worlds in Firefly never seemed that oppressive, really. Not unless you were robbing them. Sure, they did plenty of oppressing of the rim worlds - or simply did too little to stop them oppressing one another - but that's not quite the same thing.
Really, the standard of living in Firefly's Alliance, the Earth Alliance of Babylon 5 (any time except during the Earth-Minbari War), or the Republic or Empire in Star Wars (unless you live on Alderaan) would offer a standard of living better than what I have now.
The Demarchists on Yellowstone and it's surrounding Glitter Band from the Revelation Space universe seemed to have a good thing going for a while, until the Melding Plague and then the Inhibitors muck everything up.

Lost Universe! ... meh, now I'm just naming series that I like-also known as "Laming."
But overall... eh. I'd want to be in a sci-fi world for all the technological goodies allowing me to have a higher standard of living, and B5 seems to lack in that compared to other sci-fi.

Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken. Unrelated ME1 FanficThey seemed to be doing pretty well in Crusade for a species which suffered a 25% death rate.
/*shrugs* But that number is stated in The Deconstruction of Falling Stars (the last episode of season 4, which skips 10, 100, 500, 1000 years into the future).

Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken. Unrelated ME1 FanficI'm gonna have to agree with Barkey on one point; living in the Firefly universe would be alright. Somewhere mid-rim, but I'm pretty sure I'd end up joining the Alliance. Fight in the war, travel around shooting Browncoats, leave the Army and become a mercenary/assassin.
Other choices:
- Mass Effect universe: Pretty much the same course of action as above; enlist, fight in the war/s, become a mercenary/assassin.
- Cowboy Bebop: Once again
- Shadow Run.....ummm, I'm not a fan of corporations, cities get old, I hate taking orders, and I have this thing about killing dragons.
Nothing wrong with wanting to live in a universe where you can be a big damn hero.
But I prefer one where it is an option, not mandatory.
I fall into the I'm going to mind my own busniess out here on my 40 acres, step on my land and I'll put a bullet in your head camp.

I'd like to live in the Tosev Timeline, sharing the planet with lizards that get high on ginger would be both fun and profitable.
Charlie Tunoku is a lover and a fighter.
Might try the Paratime universe, where if you want your own Sicily you can get it.
Just as long as it's not the Space Quest universe.
Barkey, pray we don't cross paths in the 'Verse. It would be a shame if one of us had to put the other one down.
Kino: Any preference as to what world you'd live on?

Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.^Sorry, can't hear you over my running water and Companion.
It's a tie between Firefly and Earth from Starship Troopers.

Nothing in the core, and definitely nothing around Blue Sun. Guess that puts me somewhere in the Red Sun ballpark.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.Stay somewhere mid-rim; you can get useful technology and a yard.
I would like to live in the Xenosaga 'verse. I like its aesthetic and technology.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.
