I'd think something like Portal Failure or Last Second Portal Close would be more towards that.
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!Portal Splat is now a redirect for Portal Slam, Portal Splat's laconic page has been sent to the cutlist and has been replaced by a new laconic page for Portal Slam, the wicks should be fixed, and there are notes about the change on the Renamed Tropes page and in the renamed tropes thread. There was no discussion or archived discussion for Portal Splat that I could find.
Feel free to check my work here, especially since there may be some misuse of the trope for Tele-Frag or Teleporter Accident that I missed due to unfamiliarity with works.
"irhgT nm0w tehre might b ea lotof th1nmgs i dont udarstannd, ubt oim ujst goinjg to keepfollowing this pazth i belieove iN !!!!!1 dAs currently defined it's not necessarily happening at the last minute, so Last Second Portal Close and Sudden Portal Failure Syndome do not fit the trope as it is. Narrowing it so it always has to have that timing seems unnecessarily specific to me. I can see the point of a trope simply for the (often comic) business of a character slamming into a place where they think a portal; is — aaaand it's not. (I notice that it also currently covers banging into places that never had a portal in an effort to find it.)
Ok, ignore that. Rename was already done. Locking.
Crown Description:
We need a name that just means: portal=gone - at least if I understand the trope correctly. Portal Slam's good, however it implies that whoever wanted to cross just narrowly missed the window, seeing it snap shut in front of him, hence the "slamming". Not sure that's perfect, but the name is evocative.
Change, my dear, and not a moment too soon.
