    Original OP
(I saw Allan mention the lack of one so I thought I'd make one.)

Recent political stuff:

  • The vote to see if Britain should adopt Alternative Voting has failed.
  • Lib Dems lose lots of councils and councillors, whilst Labour make the majority of the gains in England.
  • The Scottish National Party do really well in the elections.

RE Passport Colour: Personally I think people should be able to choose the colour of their passports. I have always thought they would look good in black leather.

Nah, there should be some unity, if only for easy identification. Also You mean something like this?

So we're trading the power our passports currently have for blue covers.

Seems fair.

[up] Blue covers that the UK could have had anyway without leaving the EU.

So it's yet another one of those things the UK complained about that was actually something they had control of even as part of the EU all along.

A small history lesson:

The burgundy and gold EU passport was designed by the British.

The old British blue passport was imposed on the British by the League of Nations.

So the British government is so incompetent right now that they can't even get showing off their Independence right?

Oh wow. People on Twitter seem to be getting so triggered by the idea that someone doesn't think a blue passport is the greatest thing in the history of ever.

It's been almost 30 years. People quite like burgundy as a colour. It's not rocket science.

I quite liked the new passports when they were phased in. Not as big, easier to wipe in case of accident, they had way more pages and burgundy is just as official a colour as navy. The old ones were inflexible pains, but could take more rough handling. That was about the only thing in their favour.

As a Hongkonger, British Nationalism, to many, is infuriating. (Aside from the hardline populists waving colonial flags, most of the locals do not have fond memories of the colonial era.)

I always thought it looked better in burgundy anyway.

What's also weird is that after how long we've had the "THE END OF FOM IS A RED LINE THAT WE WILL TOLERATE NO DEVIATION ON" spiel people are getting angry at the suggestion that they might not have the same visa-free travel arrangements with the EU post Brexit and that we'll have to go through the "rest of the world" line at passport control, or that they won't have the ability to live, work and study anywhere in the union.

They wanted FOM ended for other people, not Brits. Those that knew we had FOM for us anyway, I know Brexiters who had to have it explained to them that FOM worked both ways and that they or their kid could go work in an EU country the same as an EU citizen could come work over here.

EU dismisses May's claim blue passports are sovereignty statement

Britain could have chosen to have blue passports while remaining a member of the EU, the European parliament’s chief Brexit coordinator has said, dismissing Theresa May’s claim that the move is a victory for British sovereignty

The Remain campaign lasted for four months. The Brexit campaign lasted for forty years.

There was a whole tweet chain and even a You Tube vid compilation of said chain about how a lot of the things the Leave campaign claimed were reasons to leave the EU were originally the UK’s ideas.

And according to Wyld, that even applies to the burgundy passports.
