On the flip side, The Inquisition was much more known for committing heinous acts in the name of God - granted, my knowledge of the historic Knights Templar isn't that solid, but I think that historically, The Inquisition lived up to the trope in question more than the Knights.
That said, The Inquisition sounds like it would be about an internal attempt at removing corrupt elements from an organization (which is what the historical Inquisition was created initially for, and fits with most modern usage of the term). Internal Affairs is a police-centric version of that, but it might be worth launching a trope in regards to the general trope.

The connotations are completely different. An inquisitor inquires(painfully). A knight templar acts((self)righteously).

I will agree with this at the level of technical accuracy, but in most people's minds, as pointed out, the Inquisition is known more for the torture than the other parts.
Also, far more to the point, the current name ain't broke so we ain't fixing it.

Why Knight Templar? Most people don't know about The Knights Templar, and it's not that clear why they're related to this trope. What about The Inquisitor? We don't have that trope yet, and the inquisition is better known.
