By the way, what is the basic categorization system the government uses to sort the Supers? For example, Percy may be in the "Cybernetics" category.

Goes something like this.

  • Supernormal
  • Cybernetics
  • Avatar (Where an outside entity goes into you and gives you power)
  • Mastermind

Then the secondary categories:

  • Brick
    • Psychokinetic (Essentially, the Superman type. Their abilities come from a telekinetic field around them.)
    • Inbuilt (Where their abilities are just there.)
  • Speedster
  • Gadgeteer (Where they build gadgets to do it)
  • Kinetic (E.g. Pyrokinesis or cryokinesis)
  • Fielder (Barrier-type Supers)
  • Scrapper (People with less-used powers, like invisibility)
  • Ranger (People who use ranged attacks- like Gwen from Ben10.)
  • Shifter

Oh wonderful. If the government is willing to shell out 12mil per year per superhero times X number of superheroes, I must assume this neighborhood makes Fallujah look like Beverly Hills.

This government also has no need of a defence force, Sabre. Not with their police force and Super force :P

How about vigilantes with no superpowers (like Percy's mom, who used mostly technology in her short-lived career)? Are they considered Supers? Do they need to restriger?

Looking at that diagram, I suppose I'm a scrapper/ranger type.

And I'm visualizing a police force that's closer to the Russian OMON-style internal security forces with their own armor, artillery, and aviation assets rather than a Western civilian police.

That's what the 'Mastermind' category is for.

SORT of.

Oh no, I think I'm going to steal your police force for a story.

So what is a "Shifter", anyway? I got a few ideas, but it's not something I'm having an easy time pinning down.

People who can alter their bodies at will.

For example- Mr Fantastic, or Mystique.

So I'm guessing mine is a pure Scrapper (due to her power not really fitting any of the other categories).

You'd be a Kinetic, actually.

Not entirely convinced that those powers fit that mold, but whatever...

She's drawing and moving heat around. That's... pretty much what pyrokinesis is.

I'm guessing Houdini fits into some kind of Supernormal Scrapper/Gadgeteer hybrid classification, then.

Well, if you want to get technical, classic pyrokinesis is just setting things on fire. Which is something she can do, although it's more a possible result of her powers than a direct manifestation. But this is getting silly. tongue

if you want to get technical, pyrokinesis is actually the controlling of fire itself, not summoning it out.

It's the difference between Pyro and Havoc in X Men right?

If we only restricted ourselves to firs rather than heat.

Havoc creates fire - not scientiffic.

Pyro moves fire, that's why he needs lighters and a flamethrower.

... That's right... right?

Yes. That's the difference.

Whereas, if we want to get technical, what he's doing here is slowing/speeding the movement of the atoms inside the targets up to cool/heat things respectively.

Can our superheros possibly manifest new powers through the course of the RP, probably to help the power balance?

It's possible, but you'll have to run any new powers past Juan and I first.
