So I finally saw the Brian the Closer. Poor guy with his teeth.

Absolutely no sympathy for Quagmire here. Sure he helped Brian out, but he didn't have to come off as so much of a douche about it.

Family Guy's hypermasculinity is getting tiresome. There's a ton of "Be a Man" lines in the more recent seasons.

It's the one show of the trio where even the daughter becomes a man.

I see most of the attmepts at supposed masculinity as making fun of it than being serious.

[up] So did I. I mean, if we were supposed to laugh at George Liquor and Sergeant Weenie Arms, it was evident that that was the case in FG.

Yeah, Quagmire had no business telling Brian to "be a man" about his plight.

If you were told by your family they'd rather not "waste money" on getting your teeth fixed, especially if one of said family members was the direct cause of the problem, you'd cry too.

"Brian the Closer" was a pretty good episode. Brian managed to get back at Quagmire, even if he was sort of in douche mode. Anyways, I guess the long wait got my expectations up for it too high. I guess, with an ominous sounding title like that and the fact that it was the last on the initial list for season 12, I expected it to be more along the lines of "Life of Brian"...yeah, just goes to show you can never be sure about the future.

Yeah, Robot Chicken beat Family Guy to the punch doing this Jesus "40 Year old Virgin" gag 7 years ago.

Ok yeah, the comedy has gotten really lazy.

I haven't looked for any yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing the selective outrage and moral indignation that this episode will receive. I'm sure any complainers would have been conspicuously absent if the episode had poked fun at any other deity.

[up] Well, except for... OK, Mohammed was a prophet...

EDIT: Wanted to share this - for those of you who don't live in Rhode Island, this pretty much explains all the local references on the show.

Much of it was made up.

[up][up]Try pointing out when Family Guy actually makes fun of another deity? Even though people like to get defensive about the show getting criticized, the show really isn't the Equal-Opportunity Offender its fanboys claims it is.

I dunno. Deities was the term used so that's why I responded. My stance on Family Guy is if it was really striving to be an Equal-Opportunity Offender, it really failed because it has a blatant slant.

Personally, I feel that it's perfectly fine that the show has a blatant slant; this hasn't stopped them from having Rush Limbaugh on the show.

I mean yeah, I'm not going to hate on anyone who still really likes it, it just confuses me whenever people try to deny it as being critique worthy.

In the Western world, there's really only two relevant deities/religious symbols. Christianity, whose adherents generally just complain and then go back to watching or not watching, and Islam. You very rarely hear about Christians getting so uppity that they hurt people over this crap, but considering the nature of the war we're fighting overseas, Mac Farlane would be right to fear for his life if he pulled half this crap with Islam.

Somehow, you just know it'd find its way to IS and Al Qaeda's eyes and he'd have a Fatwa declared on him. There's other religions that are relevant in other areas of the world, but, again, you never hear of people sending hit squads or declaring they'll kill someone for making fun of those religions. There HAVE been riots over disrespect to Mohammed in the past.

[up]Agree with your first paragraph. Reminds me of that whole SP fiasco a few years back with Muslims. I remember seeing news reports about the creators getting death threats. Sigh. Just horrible.

.... is it me, or do the Family Guy writers really hate less-than-excellent living situations?? At least twice now, I heard Stewie passively slam characters who either live in a studio apartment, or rent out a house! .... one in an episode from the first season, and one from THIS PAST season.

Try pointing out when Family Guy actually makes fun of another deity? Even though people like to get defensive about the show getting criticized, the show really isn't the Equal-Opportunity Offender its fanboys claims it is.

The show has mocked the three Abrahamic religions on multiple occasions. Vishnu was portrayed in an episode. Buddhism hasn't really been touched upon, I'll give you that one.

Look, FG is an American show and in this country, it's the Christians who have the loudest voice and influence. Is it unfair that they get poked fun at the most? Perhaps, but that's the world we live in. Dominant groups with power are Acceptable Targets. Even South Park and The Simpsons are tougher on Christianity than the other religions.

it just confuses me whenever people try to deny it as being critique worthy.

Who's doing that? People have every right to criticize the show, especially if said criticism is constructive. We're only being truthful when we say that it makes fun of everybody (except for Buddhists, apparently).

.... is it me, or do the Family Guy writers really hate less-than-excellent living situations??

People here and elsewhere seem to forget that the characters don't necessarily have to reflect the writers' views.

This show doesn't hammer on Islam as much, but Stan of Arabia from American Dad tapped on the glass there.

I'd also like to say I never got going on about how other shows "beat" a show to a joke. What exactly does that matter? Who cares if they weren't the first to try a concept so long as it's funny? If you don't feel somethings funny that's nice but saying they're being lazy or unfunny is annoying.

This opinion that if something isn't original (and how many things are really original now) or it sucks is so very irritating. That's not a legitmate critique to my mind, it's just being nitpicky.
