^^ Are you implying that Kingdom Hearts is all that dark? The game with Donald and Goofy teaming up with a protagonist who wields a giant shiny key?

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."It was a wordplay joke. Kingdom Hearts tends to use the word "darkness". A lot. A whooooole lot.

It's more frustrating waiting for the asskicking than the asskicking itself.I'm...not sure...

To the point where it doesn't even feel like a word, and has completely overtaken the "beating organ" definition.
I have a message from another time...That's because children don't usually own high-end P Cs, so there are no ridiculously bright and cheery Mario/Kirby-esque romps through candyland to balance out the Fallouts and Amnesia: The Dark Descents. And despite your one and only example I can't say I see a pattern of dark and gritty games on PC any more than on consoles.
While I wouldn't mind getting something like Super Mario Galaxy on my desktop (if only for future mods to extend its longevity) please, for the love of god keep Kingdom Hearts away from the PC.
That's interesting. Why do you juxtapose the T rating and darkness in games? Because T-rated games hardly tend to be dark.
^ You make it sound like you'll consider the PC Ruined Forever if Kingdom Hearts was ever to get released for it (not that there's any reason for that to happen). Please prove me wrong.
I looked at Darkspore and its art style seems to actually rather cartoony. The gameplay looks like a Diablo-clone, no idea what its plot is like though.
I think this is just you judging books by their covers.
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!PC gaming is already ruined forever by DRM and the fact that all we get these days are console ports. I just don't want to be reminded that Kingdom Hearts exists in my impenetrably western PC fortress where Square-Enix dares not tread.
^^The plot is basically Spore with much more focus on combat with the Grox-equivalent.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Riku's quest in a nutshell
Just try counting how many times the word darkness is said in this video.

^^ Square-Enix makes PC games too. Besides publishing some games from Western studios, they also released one of their Final Fantasy games (forget which one) on Steam.
But yeah, most of the games promoted tend to be war games (be they FPS or strategy), and stuff like that. And the artwork shown off usually is pretty dark. If nothing else, I'm annoyed by the cover.

I like being nice.

#IceBearForPresidentI find your annoyance to be interesting, considering you like Silent Hill. Now I have yet to play a Silent Hill game, but I did hear from friends that it's some of the most disturbing shit they've ever played.
As Mammalsauce has mentioned, consoles have just as many dark games as the PC - in fact, Gears is famous for being oh so GRIMDARK yet is console-exclusive. So I don't see why your finger is pointed specifically at Steam. If you were complaining about the trend in games in general, I'd understand you better. Even though you still like Silent Hill.

Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII were released on the PC. Though I hear both were cases of Porting Disaster.
GOH! JII! RAH!In FF 7's case, maybe at the time it might have been unoptimized or buggy (it does require a patch to run on ant form of windows XP or higher) but at this point it's preferable to the PSX version (unless it's emulated with a bunch of graphical enhancements).
The FF 8 port is bull dookey though. I would also like to emphasize the difference between Square (an excellent JRPG developer) and Square-Enix (the bloated megacorporate rotting corpse that drove off Sakaguchi and Matsuno).
-sigh-

All the Ewoks will look up and shout, "Save us from the Klingons!" And I'll whisper, "Why so serious?"Everytime someone says this, Chaos kills a family of moogles.
"badass" doesn't anything in after used end fail be fine. Not to start a flame war, but you do realize the reason Sakaguchi left Square was largely his own fault.
GOH! JII! RAH!
Every time I get on Steam, I notice that the latest news and latest games being sold are all dark, gritty, and T or M rated. Seriously, from Darkspore (oh look, it has "dark" in its name!) to... well, everything (I'm at work and don't have Steam in front of me), it's 90-95% darkness.
I'm tired of this belief that video games must be dark to appeal to players. Frankly, I like New Super Mario Bros Wii and am looking forward to Kid Icarus Uprising, and love Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, and really want to see something similar to those on the PC and promoted on Steam. I'm tired of the damn darkness.
