Character Development Thread--Discussion

Yeah, the thing that kinda messed up Character City was the fact that the majority of it got taken over by endless fighting and destruction. Not to mention that the current fight in Capital has been going on for a while.

Not that it's any of my business. *shrug*

It's mostly because people started to get hurt. Flamist realized "Hey, why the hell are we even taking the slightest injuries and wasting time when I could one-shot the entire battlefield?" She's a straightforward thinker like that.

If it's a huge problem, I do have a solution just in case. But that's gonna drag this on for an extra turn. Or three.

Well, I do have a Rule of Drama solution to the mall destruction, if anyone is interested. I promise it will be quite short and not interfere with any character abilities or interactions whatsoever.

Seriously, fuck this insomnia. I've only slept four of the past 36 hours, so I think I'll just wait for KC before I post again tomorrow.

@Sphinxyness: Funny you mention theme songs. Whenever I think of Lara, disillusioned and somewhat cynical girl she is, and how she contrasts so much with Kyana, who is this cheerful, optimistic lass, I can't stop thinking about the Pollyanna song from the Mother games.

When it comes to music for the protagonist in my story (which I haven't really introduced properly yet), I have three songs in mind:

Hero by Skillet

Look How Far We've Come by Imagine Dragons, and

Move Along by All American Rejects.

Also, something tells me that RWBY is a much bigger influence on your story than you let on.

Foster is currently planning on casting a restoration spell pretty soon, it'll take both his and Rani's energies and leave them rather tired, but it can be done. Think of it like a computer restoration, if your computer gets messed up you can restore it to an earlier time. That's kind of how the spell works.

That would have to work pretty much at least city wide on everyone else's characters to "undo" something as spectacular as a hole being punched in the atmosphere - however briefly - over Old City.

I don't think I like the sound of that either.

To be honest, nothing that doesn't involve my characters is really my business. I just feel like people are escalating things way too far for a random encounter.

Yeah, I would appreciate opting out of time being rewound, I already have an ending ready for the Genocide arc, and I'm getting so close.

Actually funny enough I made Kyana way before RWBY existed. lol I just happened to hear that song and was like "Yeah that's Kyana." lol Yang reminds me a lot of how I created Kyana as well as Ruby.

She actually started out as a Teen Titans OC. XD I've evolved her since then, making her an original character that fangirls over heroes in general. I had fun in a Avengers rp I put her in, making her fangirl over the Avengers and dive head first into danger with Loki. lol

I was expecting the Random Encounter would entail "givin' 'em a bit of a slap", no need for Gwion to even draw his pistol (until Glock-boy turned up), for two or three "turns" and moving on to Rani and Foster's place. I ran out of things for Gwion to do after his second turn and I've just been winging it ever since as the fight's prolonged.

I hadn't gotten the impression that the "restore" spell would be city-wide. It would only have to affect the mall and that general area, wouldn't it?

Then again, what exactly does "punching a hole in the atmosphere" entail?

Also, given all the gunfire (amongst other noises), it's quite probable all the characters in the Old City abandoned mall would/will be rounded up by the local authorities, given what we've established about the Capitol and barring anything convenient happening. That could/would either be an interesting new direction or a certain dead end...

Exactly what it sounds like. Imagine a pillar of fire with about the diameter of the mall the characters are in right now. But tall enough to go straight through the cloud layer, through the atmosphere and into space. About that much.

And, I'll say it again, I have an author's saving throw I can use. But it will drag on this fight for a few more turns. If you're okay with that, say so and I'll use it.

Well the original plan was rough up and send some people away crying rather than "small nuclear weapon". Hell Ulf wasn't supposed to even go wolf yet. But well, people kept escalating. :/

It's too late for me to post tonight. I'll try first thing tomorrow, maybe later.

I think it might be best to just have the fight come to a quick end, otherwise it's just going to keep escalating and eventually spiral out of control.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Time isn't really rewound per se, and there would still be a hole punched in the atmosphere. It will simply restore the mall and that's it. There's no time rewinding to it.

I seriously need to stop posting eight hours apart.

Doesn't that just bring back the whole "people are going to notice a hole getting punched in the atmosphere" thing, though? No one really cares about what happens to the abandoned mall per se.

(Although now that I think about it, I could work with that, actually).

Will the restoration spell bring back the injured thugs?

I'm willing to go along with the "miniature supernova" plan if everyone else involved is. If nothing else, it's certainly going to be dramatic. But even if the mall is restored, the explosion will surely be noticed, as nrjxll said...

And if the mall does go down, who's going to bring in the cops?

Hi, everyone! I’m new to this forum, and I have a couple of characters to develop in the Worlds’ Fair thread. Before I do, I have a few questions to ask:

1. Is it, actually, too late to start posting in the Worlds’ Fair thread? How is it decided that Character Development thread needs to be wrapped up?
2. Is it forbidden to sell slaves on Fair’s Market?
3. What is the best location for an emergency landing of an airship?

Not sure what to post for Seon right now.

Fair is effectively over, yes. The threads basically end whenever enough people lose interest in them; Fair is down to just myself and two other participants and the only reason we're still posting is to wrap up a plotline. It'll probably end for good in the next three-four posts.

We do have another ongoing thread, though, and are planning on launching a second in the near future.

I'm not at all happy with a "small supernova", even if it is magically "reversed". It was supposed to be a bit of a slap around and get out, not start friggin' Armageddon and get arrested.

As to the police coming, I'm sure that a sudden dramatic supernova at the mall would preclude any need for someone to call them, they'd find it for themselves.

Another ongoing thread being the Capital, I presume? Hm... What would be the answers to my two other questions, then, if applied to that thread?
