I'm the captain of a team for the arcade Rhythm Game DJMAX Technika 2. Mainly in Technika 2, the purpose of a team is to create team courses for other players to play as well as rank up on the crew leaderboard by playing and grinding experience points.
My team isn't really competitive—we're more of a casual team, if not Nakama that have a tendency to go out to casual restaurants for dinner during or after arcade trips.
