I think the beatings went too far, but I think all the other, "borderline-legal" tactics are fucking brilliant. They want to dance the fine line of free speech and rules lawyer their way around? Why not use their own games against them?

Look, you can't make me speak in a logical, coherent, intelligent bananna.I'm not gonna lose sleep over this, good job Mississippi.
Yeah, the beating is just kind of meh in my eyes, but then again you run your mouth in the south that's what happens.
Beating up outsiders is a Mississippi tradition. They just did it to the right group this time.
HodorI don't understand what's so "evil" and "ignorant" about calling a registered Democrat who has run for office as a Democrat a Democrat. What, now Republicans have to take the blame for DEMOCRATS who do bad things? I mean, nobody should have to take the blame for anything anyone else does, but you're stretching even more than you normally are here.
At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...It's the implication that the Democrats are behind Phelps.
I think it's stupid to point it out when it's clearly irrelevant.
It's like saying someone who was a mass murderer drove a car, so cars are evil. It's Hitler Ate Sugar.
Look, you can't make me speak in a logical, coherent, intelligent bananna.Nice frantic strawman there. No, that last paragraph shouldn't have been shifted to blame the Republicans. It should have been left out entirely as irrelevant and slanderous.
Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.Yes, it is irrelevant and it indicates that the article wanted to attack democrats by associating Phelps with them. Similarly, it bugs me when Phelps and co are referred to as an anti-war group and their homophobia (and frankly hatred of everyone whose last name isn't Phelps) are ignored.

HodorHere's what it takes to be a member of a given political party on the election rolls.
Checking a box.
Same with running as one, at least in the primaries.
Do I blame the Republican party for Basil Marceaux?
Nope. Nor with any other such fringe candidates.
But clearly the writers of the story want to taint the Democratic Party with guilt by association.
That's what is wrong. They could have left it off and been much better off, but no, they decided to defend it with a transparent argument that reveals the lack of substance to their claim.

It's just as relevant as mentioning the fact that some guy who cheated on his wife with another guy is a Republican. Is that implying that there's a gay-Republican-wife-cheating conspiracy?
At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...But that guy is usually a Congressman or Senator, a position for which political affiliation is actually a necessary part, so bad analogy.
If some random guy cheated on his wife with another guy it wouldn't make any sense for a newspaper to list his political affiliation.
HodorOK, can we please not derail into this? Nobody gives a flying fuck what party Phelps supports, and it's not even strictly on-topic, it's just an addendum at the end of the article.

Yeah, the point of the article is the troll-tactic using WBC got spectacularly foiled by their own kind of tactics.
In nothing short of a real-life Moment of Awesome.

I still want to see just how many people show up with signs at Fred Phelp's funeral.
At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...Mark on the South thumping thing. I believe it goes like this. "Don't start none, won't be none."
I really hope they don't think they could get away with this assholish behavior forever. I am honestly surprised they have not been murdered by angry gun toting loons.

Who watches the watchmen?^
I wouldn't really bat an eyelash either. Some fringe groups would gain sympathy from such an event, I don't believe this to be true of the WBC. I think if every member was locked in their church while it was set on fire, there might be a few comments about it being extreme, but the whole thing would quickly be forgotten.
And much rejoicing would be had.
I wouldn't be upset, doubt I'd celebrate though.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?I'll celebrate Phelps waking up one morning and saying "All that stuff I did...it was wrong, and I'm very very sorry" .
Admittedly, I'd like him a more robust admission, but you get the gist of it.
I wouldn't kill the children. They would be the only ones I would have spared.
Who watches the watchmen?I'm not sure I'd even be satisfied if he suddenly had a grinch-stole-christmas-esque change of heart. I'd still want to put a bullet in that heart.
I'm supremely amazed that he hasn't been assassinated yet for shits and giggles, considering the demographic he's most famous for fucking with these days, people who are trained to kill other people and have the stones to do it.
And may possibly have the mental impairment or other issue to go fuck it and blow him away.
Who watches the watchmen?
Oh it is still just desserts for the assholish nature of the group.
