A time travel story where the twist is that the story is a time travel story, the villain says the above line to the hero regarding how their efforts are for naught as their plans bore fruit before the hero even went to school as the two are battling each other inside a Dyson sphere.

King of the Rhino Men
Said nonchalantly by an invading king in his tent playing chess after hearing from his commanders how his strategy resulted the resounding defeat of one of the opposing king’s minor noble allies. The opposing king is just sitting right across from him with a bemused grin, and casually reminds him that between two gods like them that their little war is just a game.

Spoken by a Cloudcuckoolander you found starving in the woods and believed to have been trapped within our dimension, and now just before the sun was supposed to rise, you found out that you're the one who's actually trapped inside of theirs.

Spoken by a woman who was hereto seen as the mother of the child she is speaking to up to that point. This is the point where she revealed she kidnapped said kid.
"We will now proceed with the operation. Now just step back and relax..."

The character has been missing all day, not really talking to anyone, which is weird considering they are usually The Heart of the group. Their friends find out about them being in a hospital, supposedly for a cold according to other's accounts. They sneak to near their room to give them a surprise visit, and once they get close enough, they heard this.
"Hmm. I guess that's over huh? Pretty disappointing." Due to unfortunate events, i will continue to exist until further notice.
Buddy
The speaker turns out to be an Arms Dealer who was not only making a profit between the two conflicting sides in the current narrative, but was in fact responsible for instigating the conflict, and is displeased to hear that the heroes have managed to settle both sides' differences far earlier than expected.
"Your decision will take out your best men long before it gets your worst. But I guess that's not my problem, isn't it?"
