Way the page is written now, it assumes that a series focusing more on political/social issues is always/usually a bad thing, and the examples are not shy about denigrating a show's quality for using this trope. If it was just a couple lines in the description and a few examples I'd probably fix it myself without bringing it here, but the negative attitude is so infused into every single part of the page, I'm wondering how to proceed.

The King Steve interludes in 8-Bit Theatre could be considered a form of this, although they make up about .3% of the comic and he's more Caligula Drift than anything else.
... I think the examples need clean-up too...

The openning description focuses on only negative aspects and summarises any small good things about it into a sarcastic one sentence at the end of the description. I propose rewriting it into something like this:

"The process or phenomenon of an apolitical show, comic, acting career, blog, etc. being slowly changed by a controversial politician or political issue.

Existing characters are modified into taking weird, vaguely or not-so-vaguely political stances; fantasy plotlines slowly or not-so-slowly change and start to become analogues or outright allegories to current events. If handled badly, it can come off as shoe-horning the characters and you may find yourself asking Since when was this about Iraq?.

The trope name is designed for versatility. ____ Drift can be used for just about anything that's magnetically pulling pop culture off-topic. Key streams of Issue Drift in the recent past include but are not limited to: Commie Drift in the 1950s, Dick Drift in the Nixon/Watergate era, up to the Bush Drift of today.

Think of it as a political Flanderization. See also Cerebus Syndrome.

Sometimes the distraction is brief before the show goes back to original status. In a worst-case scenario, our beloved entertainment has been sent spinning off into the dark recesses of punditry, never to return. However, if handled well, it may attract more people who are into that sort of thing."

The definition has changed, but it's still very negative. Tropes Are Not Bad.

But it's also one of those things that is only noticed when the result is considered bad.

Think this could do with a more neutral article (it wouldn't need a lot of changing). And a lot of the examples could be rewritten to be less bitter.

And now, just to showcase my [[Hypocritical Humour hypocrisy]], I'm going to ask: who watched The Simpsons after Bush's election anyway?
