Requests to Unlock Locked Pages

Go To

This thread is to request that a locked article be unlocked. Please read the guidelines below before making a request.

  1. Please see Locked Pages and Permanent Redlink Club first. If an article is on the Permanent Redlink Club, it will not be unlocked, ever.
  2. Pages cut a while ago were automatically locked. Before asking for an unlock, make sure that the article you want to create is in the proper Namespace, has gone through YKTTW if it's a trope, and otherwise fulfills our guidelines for Creating New Pages.
  3. If you just want to make an edit to an article, post here instead.
  4. Don't ask for new Main redirects. Those are only for old articles with lots of existing inbounds.

Original post

I'll start it off: could someone please unlock Hootie And The Blowfish so I can make a new page on it? The last page was cut for being copypasta from Wikipedia.

[up]But there were no problems with the example taken from Ted Baxter. Which are what was deleted.

[up][up]And the page itself showed no signs of being Flame Bait. There were no Edit Wars or Complaining About People You Don'tLike since the two tropes were merged.

ShoutOut.Team Fortress 2 seems to have been cut again for what ever reason.

The cut reason is "merged into Trivia". Which is probably a good idea overall.

Well Shout-Out is not Trivia, plus you unlocked it for the same reason the last time it was cut.

Talk to the people who did it (see the recent cuts on the Cut List). That's not a topic for this thread.

Please unlock the page for Anna Sophia Robb. There seems to be no reason why it was locked in the first place.

Like tombcannon already told you, pages that get cut get auto-locked. This is what happened here. We don't have the cut history but I'd be willing to bet that someone started another creepy fan "shrine" page, which got cut. Some fans get excessively personal and over the top in expressing how attractive they find an actress.

Anna Sophia Robb unlocked. You know what to avoid; the warning might be wholly unnecessary.

Thanks for unlocking the page! I've just restored the text.

It's wikipedia copy pasta. It's even the same image. That's why it was cut. You need to completely rewrite it yourself from scratch to keep it from being cut again.

It's been modified here and there, but it starts with a direct copy. Copying slabs of Wikipedia is not OK.

Shima's quite right: don't do lame Wikipedia copy jobs — we aren't a Wikipedia clone. Rewrite with original, thought-out, text or back to the Cut List it goes.

Looks like he isn't coming back. Removed the offending text to the Sandbox and sent him a PM.

I know it was locked because of a dumb edit war, but could the mods please unlock the Panty And Stocking With Garterbelt page? I think enough time has passed, plus it's not really fair to lock a whole page because of the actions of a couple users.

Also could we add the Panty quote back? The point of having Garterbelt's quote is useless if we don't have her quote to contrast it with.

A page gets one quote unless I missed something.

Have the edit warrers been dealt with?

Nope, that's right. One quote. If there is a very good reason we sometimes have two short quotes. The existing quote is four lines.

The page is the target of a persistent ban evader. I expect we're handling edits via "Edit Request for a Locked Page" for now.

So there's no chance of it being unlocked? It just seems like an extreme reaction.

Also, that one quote rule seems pretty arbitrary, you kind of need both quotes for the juxtaposition, I don't see how adding one more short quote will somehow make the page worse.

Our primary job as wiki moderators is to prevent vandalism. Sometimes a page lock is required.

Multiple quotes are clutter. Details

Please unlock Sandbox. How To Pick A Good Image. I was going to write something there, but it's locked. I was thinking of adding a new section.

Done. Sandbox articles probably shouldn't be locked after cut, but that's a different topic.

I have not been able to figure out why Literary Criticism was locked. I can put together a fairly concise overview of the general principles, with links to the various pages the already exist that develop the various theories further. I guess it would almost be like an annotated index. Maybe that's not desired, but if so, I can tackle it.

Ah. Thanks for the link. Not what I expected, but I guess not surprising, and largely borne out of misunderstanding I suspect (the person who said it was a "take that" to an English prof probably nailed it). But the discussion ended without a statement of a definite resolution. I actually teach this stuff to underclassmen and present it as an assortment of tools that can be used to shed light on different elements of a work, with varying degrees of validity (much like one of the posters mentioned), and should not be considered the end-all of interpretation. I'd like to think I can offer something under Useful Notes that could clear up the misconceptions a bit, essentially the definitions page one person asked for, but if you think it wouldn't survive the inevitable response, than I guess that's that. Let me know what you think.
